Blue Berry Railroad Ramble - 10/09/2011

Caught Chris Cooper doubleheading with his two scratch-built electric locomotives which both use the similar drive train for power, just different cabs. There were four steam engines in attendance and I managed to capture three of them on different tracks, Kevin Harris with Roger Harnish's Pacific, Jon Jaros with his Northern and Mitch Lane on Karl Losely's Hudson.
A view looking south as Mitch with the Hudson pulls ahead of the others who are on the adjacent tracks. A view looking northwest across the yard that is under construction with Mike Uhrich running his boxcab powered train in front of Mitch with the Hudson and Frank Foti who is double heading with him.
A view of Kevin eastbound with the Pacific on the straight-a-way heading towards the yard area. Chris with his two engines doubleheading as he follows behind Kevin around the track.
Dick Clark brought his gas powered South Park switcher and Edith Hacker riding behind him takes my picture while I take their picture as we pass one another. Jon with his Northern passes the photographer on the Snoopy train at the East end of the long straight-a-way.
Looking over the roof of the Snoopy train at the parallel 800 feet long straight-a-way tracks running east and west at the Blue Berry Railroad that has a turning wye down at the trees in the distance. Edith and Dick backing up their train to the second wye after running through the switch for the leg of the first wye.
Judy Oscker sitting on the Snoopy train after it negotiated the second wye with Frank and Mitch backing up to the second wye which effectively turns the trains at this end of the straight-a-way. East Wind is over the switch as the train continues to back up for the Hudson to clear the switch.
Jon with his passengers after turning his train is just starting down the long straight track. Arriving at the East end of the railroad, just past the yard track, Kevin and Roger Harnish were by the Pacific and to the right was Chris checking the cars on his train.
Kevin watches as Roger ties to get his Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs who are named Toby and Tyler to cooperate and sit for a photo, they just didn't want to face the photographer. Jon engulfed in smoke as he comes around the southeast curve on the mainline and heads toward the yard area.
Snoopy eastbound running on the southern straight section along the tie grade wall after taking the turning loop at this end of the run. With Snoopy in a siding, Frank passes by with East Wind running light and westbound on the long straight track.
Diane Hopp running Mike's boxcab powered train with her passenger, Linda Harris, as they travel westbound in the sun. Across from the yard area on the mainline I caught Kevin with the Pacific slowly making his way eastbound.
Karl Losely astride the tender of the Hudson westbound running without cars. Frank and Karl stop to talk as they pass each other with their steamers, each going in opposite directions.
Karl initiating Rick into the world of big steam as he shows and explains the controls and gauges in the cab of the Hudson to him. With the whistle blowing Rick is all smiles as he opens the throttle on the Hudson and starts moving down the track with Karl riding behind.
Mike Harkleroad tending to the fire on the big Northern as he sits on one of the tracks coming from the loading/unloading area. Chris coming around the long curve after the tie wall straight-a-way with Ron Trenhaile as his passenger.
A view looking east near the beginning of the tie beam grade wall with Dick and his South Park engine in the distance. With the Snoopy train turned and starting back down the straight-a-way eastbound I caught Bret Lane running the Northern weatbound as he took the switch for the turning wye.
Dick took time out to relax from running after he stopped to check the oil and kick the tires on his engine. I caught Dick later eastbound on the reverse loop longing to be at the controls of the big engines again as he watched this pair running West.
Roger running his train on the reverse loop with his dogs getting their exercise by running alongside of the train. At the other end of the railroad Rick and Karl were on the first leg of the turning wye as one of Roger's dogs was headed in the opposite direction.
Jon starts down the straight-a-way after just passing through the second wye with a billowy mass of smoke from the exhaust. Mike at the controls of the Northern as we pass each other on the long straight track.
Rick running solo with the Hudson as he rounds the sweeping curve that leads to the reverse loop for turning the trains at the southwest portion of the railroad. I waited for Rick to come back from the reverse loop and he was really pleased with the opportunity of running the Hudson.
All good things must come to an end as we see Frank cleaning up East Wind on one of the steaming bays. Roger cleaning the flues on his Pacific as it siits on one of the steaming bays across from Frank's engine.
Judy stands in front of a rolled tube from a vessel for size comparison....With all the area out here do you think this might be a boiler for a little bit bigger engine Karl has in mind? Snoopy train on the elevated platform at the loading/unloading area waiting for the scissor lift. It was a good run today.
