Public Run – Earth Day - 4/22/2012


Ted Nylan with his pair of interurban's is about to depart the station with the first of the passengers for the run today. Scott Hewis and Frank Foti have pulled into the loading area and await Roy Harris to load their trains as we have a long line of people waiting to ride despite the cold and dampness of today.
With the cylinder cocks open on East Wind the steam vapors are most pronounced as Frank takes the switch over to the Main Line at the beginning of his run. Jeff Ridler with his Steeple cab departs the station with a load of passengers as Roy Harris talks to Scott Hewis on the train behind him.
Rick Nagy and the club's GP38 with a full load of passengers waits for Roy Harris to give the "All Aboard" signal so he can depart the station. Judson Elliott with his scratch built electric powered locomotive that he's working on is about to leave the station with his load of passengers.
Ken Vendlinger with his Reading train and his passengers are all bundled up against the cold as he departs the area at the beginning of his run. East Wind pulled into the station and simmers on the track amid the steam vapors as Frank Foti waits for the train to be loaded with passengers for his next run.
Frank Foti reaches out for the switch controller to align the switch for Ted Nylan and his interurbans as Frank leaves the station. Don Speidel running Paul Zorko's new engine as he approaches Zip Junction on his way to Horrendous.
Rick Nagy running the GP38 heading for Horrendous passes Ted Nyland and his interurban's going in the opposite direction is on his final leg of his run. After passing through Horrendous, Frank with his trainload of passengers and Steve Zaken as conductor will soon pass through Zip Junction and be back at the station in a few minutes.
Ken Brooks with his passengers on the grade after just coming out of the Covered Bridge will soon be passing through Zip Junction. Jeff trailing behind Ken emerges from the Covered Bridge on his way westbound to Horrendous and points beyond.
Scott Hewis operating Paul Emch's Nickel Plate train gives us a wave as he approaches the photographer. Caught Scott with another load of passengers as he passes through the Truss Bridge and soon they will be taking the grade at Mackey's Run.
Don has just crossed the Truss Bridge with his train and Bill Besselman is his conductor for this run. Jeff and his passengers are all smiles as they pass through the Truss Bridge and head for the crossing of the Park Access road and grade at Mackey's Run.
A casual Ted with his interurban's as he rumbles over the Truss Bridge as he passes by the photographer on his way to Mackey's Run and Big Bend Bridge. Frank with his load of passengers and Steve Zaken as his conductor just passed through Hilton and will soon be on the double crossover at Gulch.
Ken as he passes through Hilton on the start of his long downgrade run through Hilde Hill and Fern. Coming down the mainline is Judson with this trainload of passengers framed between the trees for this picture near the beginning of his run.
Ken is either talking to the passengers or trying to catch bugs in his mouth as he passes over the grade crossing for the Park Access road near the beginning of his run. Bill Deptowicz, Paul Zorko, Dick Clark and Joe Banzer in discussion as they watch the trains arriving and departing the station and trying to keep warm.
With the weather in the low 40s and a 20 to 30 mph wind blowing it was a cool day as Linda Harris, Josh Frank, Ethan Deptowicz and Edith Hacker stand around the fire ring trying to keep warm. Ken at Pandora with his trainload of passengers after just passing over the Big Bend Bridge as viewed through the trees.
Frank as he nears the end of his run has just come off the Festival Bridge and will soon be arriving at the station. Ted with his trainload of passengers all bundled up against the penetrating cold as they pass through Pandora.
Mike Harkleroad running the GP38 is just coming off the Big Bend Bridge with a full load of passengers who look cold. Kenny coming off the Big Bend Bridge and everyone has big smiles for the photographer, enjoying the ride even though it is cold.
Maybe it's just this end of the bridge that everyone's happy as they pass over Big Bend Bridge as noticed by Ted's passengers. Jerry Bell at the controls of Paul's engine as he comes around the curve and will soon be rumbling across the Big Bend Bridge with his trainload of passengers.
Frank showing the photographer his appreciation for the photographer standing out in the cold waiting for the trains to come by just so he can get this momentous moment on a digital image. Trev Smith as engineer of "Scrappy" with his grandpa Dave Mroczynski run the train on the Orchard Loop behind the station with members in the background around the fire trying to keep warm.
Bill set down the camera and his son John is taking some pictures as Bill takes time out to run the GP38 for a while. Dick Clark looks at the photographer as though to say "You're not going to really take my picture are you?"
Bill coming back into the station with his passengers after the first of many runs today. The line of riders waiting in the cold to take a ride is getting a little shorter and Frank Foti is about to depart the station with his passengers.
Ethan Deptowicz enjoys running the "Scrappy" train behind the station on the Orchard Loop near the end of the run. Paul Emch swings his leg over the hood of the cab of his engine and he's ready to depart after having Kevin Harris and Roy Harris, standing behind him, loaded his train.
