Work Session

Mark Ross moves the club engine as he heads for the lift to check the club engine over for fluids and lube. Rick Nagy and George Woodling help to remove the old track to the too sharp Branch line we abandoned.
Afterwards the guys loaded steel rail onto the work train as we are going to replace the aluminum rail at Pandora. We had already replaced the outside rail with steel before as that rail on a curve gets the greater wear.
As George Woodling and Lew Fowler install the 1st pre-bent section of rail, Rick Nagy and Wally Pausch check the ties for stray ballast. Lew fastening down the rail by setting the screws to catch the foot of the rail.
Dick Clark files the end of the rail for the slip-on rail joiner as Wally waits to help with bending the rail. Making good progress as the inside rail has been replaced with steel rail and ballasted from Big Bend Bridge to Pandora.
Looking good as the guys head for the station to take a break before tackling the old switch that was built with aluminum rail. Near the station, George Metts, Edith Hacker and Ted Nyland were cutting up the branches using an electric chain saw.
Back at the switch we removed the aluminum rail through the switch and took measurements for removal of the foot of the rail for the switch points. Frank Foti and Lew worked on the by-pass track we call the North Leg.
We were replacing the aluminum rail on this section also as we waited for the rail through the switch to be ground down. The last piece of rail was bent and Frank and Lew have the rail gauges in place.
Rick is checking the rail for being level as Ron Trenhaile and George tamp the ballast. Rick lifting the rail with an old long screwdriver that has been dubbed "Old Yeller".
