Work session - 8/11/10

John Koontz looks winded from swinging that mattock but we found that we have to go deeper at this end of the station. Dick Clark filling the buckets with the loose debris.
In the fall when the apples fall off the trees I think Edith Hacker has a full time job removing the overripe and bruised apples. Rick Nagy putting on the rail joiner clips so all we will have to do is to slide them in place.
John still working on making the "track trench" a little deeper. Bill Deptowicz trying to level out the bottom of the trench while Wally Pausch works on finishing the tie replacement.
Finally down to the level we need to put back the refurbished track panels. Dick Checking over our work before we move the panels in place.
Rick, Wally and Dick slide the 20 foot track panel into place in the trench. A view from the other end showing both 20 foot panels are back in their respective places.
Dick checking with a level the top of the rail elevation matches the brick pavers. Wally working on the rail joiners in the background as Dick and Rick slide the rail joiners into position.
The rail and the top of pavers aligned and level so we are doing good at this point. Balllast train, and Joe Banzer is spreading ballast while Mike Harleroad and Wally in the background tamp the ballast between the ties.
The guys are doing a preliminary tamping and then the track will be lifted as required and leveled. The guys take a break as the ballast train has left to get another load of stone.
We will probably need two more trainloads of ballast to level this section of track. At this end of the station the track is leveled and swept down of the excess ballast.
Dick working off the pavers level to adjust the track elevation. Mike is tamping while Edith sweeps off the excess ballast so Dick can sight along the rail to detect any dips in the track.
