Work Session - 1/07/09

Ted Nyland brought materials to make a switch assembly table and Ken Brooks and George Woodling helped in assembling it. Rick Nagy brought the ties already cut to length from Blueberry RR.
Ted oversees the work that George is doing with the assembly of the work table frame. I've got to keep George away from the coffee machine...the caffeine gets to him.
Ken measuring along the frame and marking a line every four inches for the tie spacing. Ken, George and Ted fasten down the tie spacers to the work table.
Dick Clark brought in a swing frame truck so that we can compare clearances for brake rigging that a conventional truck with brakes have. Dave Foster added this set of brakes with cast iron shoes to an old set of trucks from one of our rider cars.
Rick Nagy and Joe Banzer were doing maintenance on the work engine and are changing the oil. Ted working on setting the curved rail that we just run through the rail bender, the wedges hold the ties tight against the tie spacers.
Bottom view of the old set of trucks with brakes similar to Mountain Car arrangement. Ken helping with the alignment as Ted sets the end of the rail by the switch points.
While this was going on Dave was helping Frank Foti who was drilling out some bolts holding the boiler to the smoke box. Joe was trouble shooting the wiring in the shell of the work engine for the lights.
Dave managed to get a few rotations of the bolt with a punch and hammer and is now turning the bolt with channel locks as Frank holds the nut with pliers. A view of the smoke box with the plumbing disconnected and one more bolt to remove on the very bottom.
