Work Session - 1/27/10

Steve Zaken assembling another truck as Dave Foster sorts through the parts that he made at home for the brakes. Steve adding springs as Dave assembles the brake rigging for one truck.
We were assembling used painted air cylinders that were donated to us for the brakes. Ken Brooks and Lew Fowler, Dick Clark and Rick Nagy in background and Joe Banzer and Steve working on a truck with Dave and Frank Foti along with yours truly, a good turnout for this work session.
Steve and Joe trying to find an easy way to put the springs back in as our work table has a sheet of plexiglas on top which is slippery. One of our partially assembled brake rigging minus the shoes and hangers.
A view of the assembled brake rigging viewed from the underside of the truck with the air cylinder barely visable. Ken painting the frame of work engine 101.
Frank joins in and starts painting from the other end of the frame. Rick and Dick are working on running the air lines and connectors between cars for the air brakes to upgrade the cars.
Dick is adding the Schrader valve through the cars steel angle end that he drilled. Ken continues painting the frame which has to be hard on the knees.
Dave adjusts the cams in the brake rigging as Ted Nyland talks with him. Steve joins in with Ken and I can't believe that they are that happy about painting the frame. Maybe it's just the paint fumes.
Dick drills through another car end as Rick steadies the car. The guys taking a break as Ken holds the grinder that Bill Deptowicz just used to grind the spring pads on the side frames for brake hanger clearance.
