Park's Awards Dinner - 10/01/13

The Park every year holds an awards banquet dinner to honor the volunteers who have hit their milestone service years. The Park awards those that have volunteer hours, in our case the Lake Shore Live Steamers of which we are a small part of the many other Park volunteers.
Quite a few were in attendance and we filled up the meeting place to capacity. Joe Banzer, who is a LSLS member and his wife Charlotte took time to pose for the photographer before we started eating.
At the photographer's table we had Judy Oscker, Julie Hird, Don Speidel and across from him his wife Phyllis, Dave Hird, Charlotte and Joe Banzer. This is why there was no coffee in the urn out on the floor as the gals in the Park service were hiding it in the kitchen. At least we could all laugh about it.
After dinner with the attendees enjoying their desert and good conversation, Dan Burnett gave a synopsis of the volunteers and some of the programs that they're doing at the Park while a slide show presentation was being shown. Jann Glove was our MC for tonight's activities after dinner as she had prepared a dissertation.
Jann at this point had our attention as she was calling out the different years of service and the names of the awardees as they were honored for their contribution to the Park service. As they called out a person's name, he or she was presented with an award which varied according to your years of service.
The evening progressed with the continuation of the awards as the person's names were called out. If you were close to the front, you could walk up and receive it or someone would bring it to you.
Not everyone received an award, but many did of those attending the dinner. It was a good time had by all, but it's not over yet.
Jan had our attention as she told us about how certain people had different words on a slip of paper they were given when they signed in tonight and that they were to come up front when she called out that word. This group had the word train.
These folks on their slip had the word's Lake Metropark and were told to stand together up in front. The last group had the word track and Jann took the time to explain her presentation with this participation.
The 1st group that had the word train were given an empty 16 ounce plastic bottle to blow in for a whistle. The 2nd group that had Lake Metroparks were to chant together welcome to Lake Metroparks, etc. when they heard those 2 words.
The last group with the word track we do the clickety clack and then slap their arms on their bodies in a little routine which they were supposed to do every time they heard the word track. The 1st group giving us a test run of the whistle when they heard the word train.
The group going through the routine when they heard the word track, which Jann gave a history for the 30 years the Park has been here and included the three words many times. You did a great job Jann with the story and interaction to the history of the Park.
