Public Run - 10/03/10

Josh Frank helping his Grampa Skip Frank with getting "Lynn" fired up for the Public Run today. George Metts and Skip watching "Lynn" doing bug control in front of the station...this should keep the spiders out from the roof overhang.
Yup!..."Lynn's doing a good job as the exhaust from the firebox rolls out of the smokestack. Skip adding coal to the firebox before he loads passengers for his first run.
Ken Brooks leaving the station with Skip behind him and you can see because of the weather that the line is short today. Ken's passengers are all smiles even the weather can't dampen and Lew Fowler is conductor at the rear.
With a full head of steam, with safeties lifted and whistle blowing, Skip leaves the station with his riders. Bill Besselman talks with Ted Nyland as Robbi Haines loads the interurbans as the riders wait eagerly.
Rick Nagy with the GP38 coming from around from the back of the station as he nears the end of his run. Lew trying to keep warm as he rides around the track as conductor, you get cold just sitting in one spot for an hour or so.
Edith Hacker getting some help from Ethan Deptowicz in gathering sticks for the fire ring which helps up all keep warm during the run. Skip blows the whistle as he departs and Ted waits for Robbi to load the passengers for his next run.
Teds riders are all smiles and wave to the photographer as they leave the station. Skip emerges from the covered bridge and soon will be on the grade up to Zip Junction.
Ted rolls by with a blur of speed as I should have used a faster shutter speed. Dick Clark as engineer of the Park locomotive having just passed through Zip Junction will soon be over Cider Bridge.
Rick emerging out of the covered bridge with a trainload of passengers that are bundled up against the cold. Kenny and his trainload of passengers framed by the trees as he starts the grade up to Zip Junction.
John Koontz running the interurbans is approaching the Truss Bridge and soon will be at Mackeys Run. Rick is following right behind John as the club train rumbles through the Truss Bridge.
Skip's train coasting down the grade from Gulch as he passes Hilde Hill and soon will be at Fern. Ken at Hilde Hill is a few minutes behind Skip and will soon pass Fern on his way to the Truss Bridge.
With "Lynn" emitting a soft barking chugging sound she takes the grade up from Gulch to High Creek with her loaded cars. Here is a cold job today as Mike Uhrich and Ray Dellmore sit on the bench at Horrendous and watch for any problems with the trains passing by.
Bill Deptowicz running the Park engine is passing through Horrendous with Paul Zorko as Conductor on the rear. A panned shot of John operating the interurbans as he runs through Horrendous.
Viewed from Horrendous is Ken in a panned shot as he runs through Drudgery on the main line near the start of his run. Bill leaving the station with another load of passengers as John in the background waits to be loaded and look at that short line.
Dick leaving the station with the GP38 and a trainload of riders with Lou as conductor at the rear who must be cold by now. Yup...Lou looks cold and tired as he's bundled up, I think he could use a hot cup of coffee but the riders can smile.
Another load of passengers depart the station smiling and the anticipation of having a fun ride. Ted starts rolling out of the station as Robbi adjusts the seats in the gondola car for the smaller riders.
One of the volunteers brought a small eared owl down to the end of the line of our riders and showed him off to the public. A beautiful bird who is cared for by the Park service.
With the end of the line in sight Ken watches Robbi load his train and adjust the seating for a little girl. Karl Losely running the Park engine leaves the station with a light load with Paul as conductor.
Skip with cyclinder cocks open exhausting the water in the cyclinders as he starts his last run. Dave Foster, John Koontz, Dick Clark, Edith Hacker, Lew Fowler and Joe Banzer trying to keep warm by the fire ring.
Dave, John and Dick with their rendition of hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil. Rick taking a run with guests and members for a ride around our track. Because of the short line many got off the train just to get in line again several times.
