10.04.06 Work Session

>
Rick Nagy and George Davidson at the ballast stone piles with the work train and starting to fill the buckets with a mix of the gravel.
George brought his Ford tractor, that has a blade on the front end, to the park and is going to try to condense the piles of gravel.
Dave Foster and Frank Foti teamed up to take on the task of blowing the leaves off the tracks. Frank at the end of the yard blowing the leaves toward the woods.
Dave behind the Switch Shop building blowing the leaves toward the end of the yard. The path through the trees on Branch Line needed to open up the 20 foot radius we had that isn't working out.
George Woodling listens to Dick Clarks' reasoning for the passing track needed parallel to this track on a curve. George is a digging machine and is taking care of a root that was encountered.
Dick, George and Frank spread ballast near the diamond at Gulch as Rick watches on. George, Dick and Rick tamp the ballast between the ties as Frank gets a tamping rod to help. The rain started again caught by the flash of the camera.
The rain was pretty heavy so we took refuge at the station. Rick took the train around the track for the distance to the station which he is now approaching.
A very wet and smiling Rick who is still having fun even though it's raining. The crew sitting under the station overhang with the water just flowing down the sloped parking lot in the background.
Rick's wet tee shirt says it all. Well the rain let up so back to the task of digging the right-of-way down to lessen the required grade of the new curve on Branch Line.
Joe Banzer waits for George to finish loading his wheelbarrow with dirt. In this picture you can get an idea of the depth we started out trenching down to.
The rain made the digging all the more messy and the soil heavier. You can see the stakes that were placed for the curve that ocassioned a tree root here and there, with no advanced planning on our part.
Progress on the digging kept pace as George Woodling here wields the mattock to loosen up the soil. Rick and Frank load the loose dirt into the wheelbarrow where the dirt will be used to ease the grade from the mainline crossing.
Lou removing a snag encounted during the digging as the rain continues. Because of the dampness a fog settled in but the work continued as Frank and Dick work to loosen and shovel the dirt into the wheelbarrow.
Joe Banzer is probably going to be sore tomorrow after all the loads he hauled today. Dick and George work to loosen the soil as the others take a much needed break.
Joe with Frank and Dick behind him utilizing a seat provided by a decayed remnant of mother nature. A little later the wind cleared the fog out for this final shot of the work today.
