Work Session - 10/08/14

Frank Foti behind Shriver Station blowing the leaves with his backpack blower to clear the Orchard Yard tracks. The leaves behind the station get heavy at times and we try to keep them off the track as the leaves hold moisture and the ties will rot faster.
Dave Hird working on adjusting the throw for this switch which is just one of many that he maintains. The Park service had a couple of trees that were cut down at the bottom of the hill by Hilde Hill next to our track.
Whoever does their tree service does a good job in that they dropped the trees and managed to avoid our tracks. The Park requests us to leave the trees where they are dropped so the wild animals can use them and eventually they will rott and return to earth.
Back up at the station Frank was still blowing leaves trying to get them worked over to one corner of the Orchard Yard. With those backpacks you can get a good body massage and blow leaves at the same time.
Rick Nagy using the hand held blower is blowing the leaves and debris away from the grade crossing near Zip Junction for the Park Access Road. We have almost 90% of the Glen, Meadow and Orchard Railroad which is in the woods, so come fall we have a lot of leaves to keep off the track.
Here Ken Brooks is blowing leaves off the track and right-a-way on the Branch Line up by Bruce. Tom Reder agitates the ballast to get it to flow down through the ballast car chute as they ballast the by-pass track in the Orchard Yard.
Rick picking up the tools with Frank watching as Dick Clark runs the track ballast sweeper after leveling this section of track on the Short Line by Ahlin Y. The crew prepare to couple the sweeper on to the work train and that will finish our work for today.
