Work Session - 10/09/13

Today we are replacing the screen door in the kitchen as the old one is no longer serving the purpose due to being warped and not closing. Ken Brooks holding the new door which he brought, as we prepare to see what contents we have to work with.
Bonnie Zaken watches along with Wayne Boron as Frank Smoley and Ken discuss a point about opening up the box. Wayne is holding up the new door as the guys have removed the door frame to see how it fits.
Ken and Frank trial fit the side frames to the door opening to check the dimensions. Frank and John Koontz, hold the door in position as Wayne prepares to screw the hinges through the frame work as Ken checks the alignment.
As the guys hold the door steady Wayne drives the screws home through the hinges. Wayne continues putting in the extra screws on the door frame to stiffen up the installation of the storm door side frame.
The guys continue to hold the door as Wayne works his way up the side frame. Ken is chiseling a recessed hole for the door latch to occupy when the door is closed.
Frank adjusting the bottom strip on the door that seals against the threshold as Ken looks on and we are finished with the door install. While we did that, Ken Vendlinger was behind the station mowing the grass and working the leaves off to one side.
Steve Zaken was using a lawnmower to mow around the track in the small areas where the riding mower can't get to by the station. One of the switch maintenance crew, Dave Hird, was checking out and lubricating the switch point throws at Zip Junction.
While we were working on the door, the track crew was removing the switch on the Branch Line in preparation for relocating it as shown in the picture. Frank Foti and John Koontz prepare to start screwing down the replacement rail to fill the void where the switch was taken out.
Dick Clark, our track master, watches as John and Frank work to fasten down the aluminum rail to the ties as Paul Zorko hands Frank rail joiner clips. The replacement rail is all in, the guys pick up tools and all that needs to be done is for the track to be reballasted to complete the job.
