Work Session - 10/13/10

Dave Foster checking out why the smoke unit we wanted to use for the up coming Whooloween Run isn't working. Jerry Bell trying to get up in the world so I told him he might as well blow the leaves out of the gutters since he is up there....not really.
Dave checking out the interworkings of the smoke unit thinking it might be just a fuse blown. Well I think it's conclusive that the unit is dead, a bad transformer, because three heads agree, Lew Fowler, Dave and Paul Zorko.
Edith Hacker provided a screen door for the station and Bill Deptowicz had to remove some of the wood along one side to make it fit the opening. Rick Nagy, John Koontz, Tom Reder, wait for Dick Clark to finish talking with Jerry about the new route of the track.
After Dick cut the rails and the section removed, the new switch was positioned and Tom and Wally Pausch are working on the rail joiners. With the rail drilled for the rail joiners they put the bolts in that hold the rails together.
Using team work the job gets done as they thread the nuts on to the bolts and tighten everything up. Dick fastens the remote switch controller for another switch to the rail of the newly installed switch for it's support.
Lew and Rick tamp the ballast around the ties of the newly installed switch. The switch installation is complete and we are one step closer to an alternate train turning track for the two way running of trains.
Back at the station Jerry was still working on the gutters and installing screens to keep the leaves out of them. Bill got the screen door mounted in place and we will wait and see how long it takes Robbi to notice.
Being an older wooden door it sags so we will have to get a tension rod with turnbuckle to straighten it out. Rick putting the extra pails we use for gravel back behind the tool shed.
Karl Losely arrived with our cauldron that he took home and power washed with steam and Jerry helped him carry it back down from his truck. Robbi Haines fixing the salad and Kitty Shriver helping her to set up the dinner serving table for the hungry guys today. She noticed the screen door.
