Club Run/Hobo Stew - 10/13/2012

Dave Foster showing how to use finesse to cook the meat so that doesn't burn it as he browns it in the pot. Up at the steaming bays Frank Foti is firing up East Wind, his Pacific steam engine, as Paul Zorko and Bonnie Zaken watch.
Paul Zorko trying out George Metts's gas powered, scratch-built Army train as he arrives back at the station. Robbi Haines busy at work in the station preparing the food for the pot for our hobo stew that's the main event today.
Caught Bill Deptowicz in the process of peeling 5 pounds of carrots as he helps out Robbie with some of the food preparation. Dick Clark on the siding as he is departing the station and about to merge onto the mainline with Metts's Army train.
Jon Jaros brought a streamer and is on the mainline near the switch to Short. Kenny Vendlinger arriving back at the station gives a wave to the photographer but the position makes it look like he's thumbing his nose at us and that's Mark and Dee Harkleroad riding behind him on his train.
Members and friends gather around the fire ring as that's a nice warm place to be on this chilly day. Mike Harkleroad adds water to the tender of the Camelback as his parents Mark and Dee patiently wait for the ride to begin.
Roy Harris, Kitty Shriver and Linda Harris in conversation as they stand and sit near the fire ring keeping warm from the radiated heat. It must seem like old times as Dick Mackey opens the throttle and departs the station riding the Camelback he used to own, with Mike riding behind him.
Steve Zaken departs the station with his Plum Cove engine and his riding car aptly named "Good and Plenty". Joe Laskowski signals to Alex Bruchac as he rolls into the station after his run, with Frank Foti and East Wind running behind him.
Frank waits at the station for the track to clear ahead so he can move forward. Ted Nyland is steaming up his American on one of the bays and is in discussion with two guests about his equipment.
George goes over the controls of his Army train in the Orchard Yard with Bob Pakeltis , as Bob prepares to take it out on the mainline for a run. Joe with his interurban gives a wave after having just cleared the the block at the beginning of Horrendous and will soon be heading down grade at Filmor.
Kenny coming out of our Covered Bridge with Lew Fowler riding behind him as they take the gentle grade up to Zip Junction. Back at the station Dick Philpott talks with Kenny about changes he would like to make to the engine this winter.
Passing through the station is Ted and Marie Nyland with their American steam engine and using one of his interurban cars as a rider car, they are closely followed by Paul Emch with his Nickel Plate Hudson. Paul with his Hudson as he slowly picks up speed departing the station for his next run.
In the kitchen Dave and Robbi are cutting up the meat into smaller pieces and will put it back into the stew to finish cooking. Robbi coming back into the station at the end of the ride holding Emily who is her nephews baby.
As I approach Fern to wait for the signal, Wally Pausch clears the signal after just coming down grade from Hilton. I arrived back at the station as Ken Brooks departs the station from the siding adjacent to the mainline.
As Judy Oscker gets herself a cup of coffee, Kitty explains she has a bunch of coats, hoodies and T-shirts that she would like the members to look at and purchase. In the kitchen, Marie Nyland is helping out with cutting the bread in preparation to the meal being served shortly.
Robbi's nephew Joshua with his wife Stephanie and their new baby Emily pose for a picture out behind the station. Dave gets ready to check the status of the pot to make sure the cabbage is cooked as the members keep warm around the fire ring or maybe he just saw a butterfly and is going to try to catch it.
Edith Hacker, Robbi, Emily, Amy Deptowicz, John Deptowicz and Judy wait patiently for the hobo stew to finish cooking as it is getting close to that time. Judy and Bill pose for a picture taken by by his son John.
Robbi explains to the crew and guest her magic ingredient which will help thicken up the hobo stew which is instant potato flakes. A view into the cauldron with the sausage, carrots and cabbage floating around the top.
Soups on! Or more appropriately stews on, as Robbi and Karl Losely start serving as Ted and Marie and Mike are amongst the first to be served. That's a lot of food in the cauldron, I hope the group is up to the task to eating at all.
Members and guests form a long line to get served one by one as the hobo stew is doled out on their plates or bowls. Some views of the group sitting around the tables enjoying the hobo stew.
Looking at the front of the station with the group that is sitting there. After partaking of the good food there was plenty time to sit around and just enjoy conversation with friends and here is Marie Nyland, Linda Harris and Emily Kutscher. Robbi did a great job of putting the hobo stew together again this year.
