Club Run, Hobo Stew - 10/15/2011


For our Hobo Stew Robbi Haines is working in the kitchen on the items that will go first into the cauldron outside over the open fire. Jonathan Shaffer, Ron Trenhaile, Paul Emch, Dick Clark and Joe Laskowski try to keep warm around the fire ring.
Alex Bruchac, with Joe and Alex Mahoney -- can you guess who snapped off the fender on Joe's electric interurban that Alex is holding in his hands? East Wind up on a steaming bay as Frank prepares the engine for a steam up as he talks with some of the guys.
Robbi tends the cauldron by turning the meat as it browns before adding water to the mix. Edith Hacker working in the kitchen cleaning the carrots for the stew.
Alex is taking out Joe's interurban for another run (without the fender). Ted Nyland and his wife, Marie, pass through the station on their way around the track on their electric-powered interurbans.

Mike Harkelroad is all smiles as he approaches Horrendous with the Park engine as he heads for Filmor and points west. Back at the station the cauldron is a-bubbling with only a few more items needing to be added.
Using Plum Cove powered drives and wheels, Judson Elliott is building this engine and is enjoying the shake-down runs as he comes in to the station. The guys watch as Dick departs the station with his SW1500 and Jonathan as his only rider -- it's cool out in those woods.
Ethan Deptowicz with Colleen Roberts, Amy and John Deptowicz as they arrive for the Hobo Stew dinner. Ethan and Judy Oscker share a moment as Ethan explains his action figures.
Emily Kutscher arrives with goodies as Kitty Shriver makes a trip back to her van. Robbi, Kathy Losely and Edith share a moment in the kitchen before the final ingredients are to be added to the cauldron.
Robbi and Kathy pull the cauldron away from the fire to check on the contents and see how things are going with the Hobo Stew. The air regulator for the brakes froze up on the Club's engine control car, so Rick Nagy, John and Karl Losely check to see if the problem can be rectified.
John Koontz at the controls of the interurbans with his wife, Trish and Colleen and Amy on the second car as they come into the station eastbound. Trish's artful construction of rainbow Jello into an engine design.
Some of the desserts available for the delight of the Hobo Stew attendees. Dinner time, as the members and friends line up with bowls in hand to partake of the hearty Hobo Stew.

Even the table out behind the station was filled with hungry club members. A view looking west from the front door of the station at those enjoying the evening meal of there was enough for seconds and thirds.
Bob "2 Bowl" Wilson, one of our members who lives in Jackson, Michigan enjoys attending our Hobo Stew event every year. Ethan standing out in front of the station with one of the poles that we used to prod the fire as darkness settled in.
