Magical Whooloween Run - 10/17-18/14


Kenny departing the station with his passengers that have the look of apprehension of what will be waiting for them out in the darkness. Dick Clark advances the throttle as he starts to move out with his next load of passengers with Valerie Bilchak as conductor.
Karl Losely at the controls of the Consolidation as he steams over the grade crossing headed towards Zip Junction nearing the end of his run. Frank Foti with East Wind and Matthew Tomko sitting on his tender as they pass through Zip Junction on their way to Horrendous.
Ron Malinowski at the controls of the interurban giving Ted a break from running and a chance to stretch his legs and get a cup of coffee. Skip Frank having just departed the station, is on the grade crossing for the Park Access Road as he heads towards Drudgery.
Mitch Lane at the controls of the Consolidation steam engine as he departs the station in a cloud of exhaust as it rolls back over the train. A little later I caught Marcel Uhrich back at the controls of the Consolidation as he advances the throttle on the engine.
With a trainload of passengers Karl Losely gains speed with the big diesel and Dave Hird on the rear, as conductor, as they depart the station. With cylinder cocks open to vent excess moisture, East Wind picks up speed as they pass by the steaming bays.
Karl back in his element sitting astride the tender behind the Consolidation steam engine as he heads out on his next run which is almost the last one for the evening. Saturday afternoon and we have four steamers up on the steaming bays being readied for tonight's run.
Frank Foti with his Pacific steam engine "East Wind", Skip Frank with his Columbia engine named "Lynn", Mike Harkleroad with George Metts' Camelback and Marcel Uhrich's Consolidation on the fourth steaming bay. It had rained before the start of the run so everything was wet as John Koontz takes the first trainload of passengers out.
Ethan Deptowicz was putting, cleanser on the track coming out of the Covered Bridge for the slight grade up to Zip Junction. Ken Brooks is running the club's GP38 with Paul Zorko as conductor at the rear.
The rain made for a cooler run as Dick Clark heads for Zip Junction after emerging from the Covered Bridge. Kenny westbound from the Truss Bridge as he heads for Mackey's Run and the Big Bend Bridge.
Dick is just cold but it almost looks like he's sleeping as he rolls past the photographer running with a shortened train because of our grades and the wet rails. John on the grade crossing just before starting up the grade to Mackey's Run.
Skip with his trainload of passengers as he approaches the Truss Bridge will soon be rolling over the switch to Fern siding. Frank Smoley with his train as he coasts downgrade after having passed Hilde Hill on his way to Fern.
Trish Koontz brought this moose and set it out by the tree as you came down the hill from Hilton and just about passed over Bridge No. 6 at the bottom of the grade. Ted Nyland coming down the grade passed through Gulch.
On the grade from Gulch up to High Creek, Ron Trenhaile was keeping the cleanser on the rails for trains to get traction with their loaded cars on this 3 1/2+ percent grade. Seeing how Ron looked with a pumpkin head hiding behind a tree.
Frank with East Wind starting down the grade towards Gulch after passing through Hilton. Kenny with his load of passengers at Hilton with Lew Fowler on the rear as his conductor bundled up against the damp coldness of the evening.
Dick passes by with his SW1500 switcher and some of his passengers still manage a smile. Next to come by the same location was John with the Park engine as he started coasting down the grade with his passengers.
Frank Smoley having passed mile marker number one is at Hilton and about to start down the grade towards Gulch and Fern. Frank Foti rolls by the double crossover at Gulch and his passengers look like they are enjoying the ride.
Mike Harkleroad in front of the coaling station with the Camelback with safeties lifted as Dave Woldman walks up to him from behind. Karl Losely and Kevin Harris look over the Consolidation that has raised its steam pressure and idling on a steaming bay.
Kenny has started another run with the train and his conductor Ron Malinowski but it's starting to rain again as the droplets are caught in the flash of the camera. Frank talks with the loader Greg Guy as the rain starts to fall in earnest.
John Deptowicz and Roberta Uhrich watch as Dick waits for his passengers to unload from the train which has turned out to be a very wet run. Frank's train is loaded and about ready to start another run as the rain stops and starts.
Roberta using an umbrella trying to keep dry as she dispenses the candy to the riders at the end of the run who are getting pretty wet. Greg loads the last train out as after this train left the station it started raining harder and the run was canceled for the remainder the evening.
