Work Session - 10/19/2011

Edith Hacker, Trish Koontz and Judy Oscker ham it up as they carry the pumpkins the Park provided for our Whooloween run over to the tables for carving. John Koontz brought his backpack leaf blower and was cleaning off the tracks on the sidings in the Orchard yard.
Trish and Judy begin by opening and cleaning out the innards of the pumpkins in preparation for carving. Wayne Boron assists with delivering the pumpkins to the tables for cleaning and carving.
Rick Nagy with a trainload of ballast as he builds up the area on the newly installed siding the track crew put in place earlier. John Elliott watches as George Metts climbs the ladder to check the wiring on the newly installed three-light railroad signal.
George tracing wires from the cable that was hanging out of the bottom of the signal case. Dick Clark passing through the station with the club's GP38 checking out the braking system without the use of an air regulator that went bad earlier at the Hobo Stew run.
Dee Harkleroad with Judy behind her and John and Trish on the other side of the table busy carving faces in the pumpkins. A view from the other end showing the activity and no, the tree trimmer shears were not used in carving the pumpkins.
Bill Besselman, Emily Kutscher and Dick Mackey joined in on the pumpkin carving to speed up the process. The carved pumpkins were placed in the train cars while the ones that still waited to be carved sit patiently on the tie wall behind the train.
Pumpkins galore and a light rain has begun. A new pumpkin carver, Jerry Bell, joined the group to assist with the pumpkin carving.
Mike Urich keeping tabs on his granddaugher, Nora, while keeping warm inside the station. Nora putting the squeeze on Grandpa Mike's digit.
The pumpkin carving crew is growing in size and more and more pumpkins are going under the knife. Another view of the carving crew and it looks like Roberta Urich is calling out for more volunteers.
More pumpkin carving artists busy at work. Nora has warmed up inside the station and she's trying out one of the kiddie seats used in the gondola cars for small children.
Kitty Shriver intensely studying the pattern for carving her special pumpkin. Darkness is settling in, but more and more carvers appear to complete the pumpkin carving process.
Another view of the carving crew busily applying their artistic talents. And rain again, and really making a show with puddles between the tracks as it continued to pour down.
The rain may be falling, but the carvers continue on bundled up against the wind and the cold. The work train sat out in the rain patiently waiting to be loaded with finished pumpkins.
A view from across the track looking at the activity of the carvers and soon the train will have a full load and head for the storage barn. With darkness closing in the carving continued under the lights of the station and it continued to rain.
Just a few more pumpkins to carve and the third wheelbarrow load of pumpkin seeds and innards that will be dumped in the woods for the wild animals to enjoy. Another train just needs one more pumpkin and will then take them on their ride to the storage barn for the night.
Some not so smily faced pumpkins waiting to ride to the barn for the night. This pumpkin was invaded by a bat in hopes of really scaring someone Friday and Saturday nights.
Karl Losely putting his artistic touches on another pumpkin. A couple of pumpkin heads just hanging around waiting for their ride -- to the storage barn.
While the carving continued, inside the station we see the many boxes of Halloween decorations which will be used to decorate the woods and make the trip around the track really spooooky! Kitty trying to remember the password to give Pam Znidar so she can enter the kitchen.
