Whooloween Run - 10/19/2012

Granddaughter Nora Howell in her giraffe costume poses with grandma and grandpa, Margaret and Dr. Mike Uhrich as they take time out from pumpkin carving for a picture. Bob Pakeltis with his grandson Adam Pakeltis arrive back at the station with the Toby train before the start of the Whooloween Run.
Behind the station the last-minute carving of pumpkins continues with Marty Pinkston, Roberta Uhrich, Dr. Margaret Uhrich Howell with her daughter Nora, Diane Hopp and Dr. Mike Uhrich. Dr. Margaret Uhrich Howell with her daughter Nora pose for the photographer as Diane Hopp watches.
Mike Harkleroad steaming up George Metts' Camelback steam engine on one of the steaming bays prior to the run. First run of the day is Rick Nagy with the club's GP 38 and a full load of passengers with Linda Harris as his conductor.
Ken Vendlinger waits for his passengers to get their riding instructions before he departs the station. Judson Elliott with his trainload of passengers slowly gains speed as he leaves the station on his first run.
Paul Zorko with his SW6 switcher, which is a Morris unit, leaves the station on this overcast day with his daughter Jennifer Legan as his conductor. Rick departing the station with another full load of passengers on his second run and the public line of passengers waiting to ride the train is growing.
Judson departs the station with another load of passengers being pulled by his scratch built engine that is currently in primer paint. Scott Hewis waves to the photographer as he heads out on the mainline for his first run with Lew Fowler as his conductor.
Edith Hacker looking dapper with her cow hat stands near the unloading area with a bowl full of candy for the kids as they depart the area from the train ride. Jeff Riddler with his first run of the day as he passes by on the mainline near the Park access grade crossing.
Ken Brooks as he approaches Horrendous with his passengers, showing some of the decorations that were strung from the trees. Ted Nyland and his passengers on his pair of interurbans as he motors by at Horrendous.
Judson at Horrendous is just about to take the grade down past Filmore towards Patty's Rock Bridge. Robbi Haines walking the track and relighting the candles that have gone out or replacing them which is an almost never-ending battle.
Richard Sales passes by with some riders and I'm not sure if one is in a devilish mood or just wants to clown around. Dick Clark having passed through High Creek is on his way towards Horrendous with his passengers and points West.
Up at the station at the loading area we see two steamers with their headlights blazing out into the darkness which barely illuminates Skip Frank as he checks over his engine on the right. Paul and his next run as he takes the switch that will converge them on to the mainline from the loading area.
Mike with the Camelback having just stopped at the unloading area talks with Anna Zorko as Edith watches. Marie Nyland with a light strapped to her head works on creating her special pumpkin that she diligently carves on.
Ted approximately at the midway point of the ride with his passengers who seem to be enjoying the ride. Kenny emerges from the Covered Bridge with his electric powered Reading switcher and as usual is all smiles.
Sean Roberts emerges from the Covered Bridge with his steam engine starting to emit the staccato bark of the exhaust as it takes the grade up to Zip Junction. Because of the light misting rain Karl Losely sands the rails on the grades as he walks the track with one of the sanders that Ted Nyland made.
Rick emerges from the Truss Bridge with his passengers and will soon be taking the grade up to Mackey's Run. Sean coasting down the grade from Hilton and you can see the rain droplets caught in the flash of the camera as it's starting to rain harder.
Back at the station Rick waits for the rest of his train to be loaded with passengers before he departs. Costumes abounded tonight as the theme was for Holloween.
Marie stands behind the pumpkin that she was working on which is about to swallow another pumpkin. Scott watches as Sean's train is being loaded for his next run with Ken Brooks doing the loading of the railroad riding cars.
With Scott's train all loaded, he engages the engine, advances the gas throttle and slowly departs the station as it starts to rain harder. Ken wearing raingear as he departs the station and it looks like we will have a wet ending to this run tonight.
As Sean leaves the station with his passenger he pulls up his parka to protect him from the rain that's falling pretty good now. Now this is what you would call railroad fans that they are waiting patiently for a ride on the trains even though it's raining.
Mike at the controls of Paul's switcher giving him a a chance to dry out and stretch his legs at the station and maybe a hot cup of coffee. With all this rain Ken still manages to smile as he runs the passengers around on the different trips, that's what you would call a diehard!
