Work Session- 10/24/2012

Rick Nagy by the water tower in front of the steaming bays works with the leaf blower trying to clear the tracks because we still have a run in December. This is a view looking down Horrendous that's buried in leaves and you can see the pumpkins where they are abandoned for the animals to eat.
It's hard to believe that just four days ago we had our Whooloween Run and today the track is buried in leaves and in this view you're looking towards High Creek from Horrendous. A view looking West along the Branch Line across the mainline at Filmor and the mainline rail cannot be seen.
Looking north from Filmore you see the rail at left diverging into the Branch Line and there are two parallel rails that are headed up between the trees towards the water tower in the distance. The single track on Branch Line that heads up the grade towards the Lionel plate girder bridge.
View looking through the Truss Bridge at the grade up to Mackey's Run covered in the fallen foliage. From Mackey's Run looking towards Big Bend bridge there's a track to the left of the trees and two parallel tracks that go towards those trees and they are hidden by leaves.
The pumpkin that was carved for the LSLS railroad for Whooloween night will soon be food for the critters of the woods. The right away and track up by the covered bridge has already been worked on by blowing the leaves to the side. We still have a run yet in December for the public but we would still want to keep the wet leaves off of the track to keep the ties from rotting.
Wayne Boron wears ear protection as he uses his blower to clear the Orchard Yard of the leaves that have fallen back there behind the station. Rick cleared the leaves from the track from the access road across the front of the steaming bays as he works towards the station.
Wayne has made good progress with the blowing of the leaves in the Orchard Yard behind the station and is about halfway done, making good progress. A view looking from Horrendous down the grade towards Filmor and you can see the progress that Rick has made in removing the leaves off the track.
Rick working towards High Creek from Horrendous as he clears the track and I'll bet his arm is getting sore about now. Last week we carried a switch we want to put into the line at Gillette which will eventually tie into the Branch Line by the plate girder bridge at Filmor.
We unbolted the rail joiners at the end of the track panels for the length required by the switch and picked the track panels out of the ballast. John Koontz working on leaf removal with his backpack blower by the Willis Car Barn as you can tell by now it takes a serious effort to remove the leaves in the fall.
Replaced a switch panel in position and Dick Clark is measuring for a connecting rail at the far end that has to be cut. It's getting late so we are ending this work session and will pick up the tools put them and the train away, but at least we have one rail continuous through the switch at this point.
