10.26.05 Work Session

Mark Ross took on the task to level and plumb our water tank that had developed a noticeable tilt. He brought his hydraulic jack and some steel plates to use as shims.
George Davidson welded up the plate girder bridge and the guys got it to it's new location at Filmor. George and Dick Clark are discussing the bridge abutments.
A view of the position for the new bridge on the siding from Bruce. Two mainline tracks will require crossings and align with the bridge and the right-a-way beyond.

We had to rework the drainage around the new abutments. Dick, George Woodling and George are digging in the trenches to reroute the water. George and Dick add drainage from the abutment.

The work train in foreground is loaded with buckets of ballast to put around the abutments. It was a very muddy proposition digging there as we had alot of rain in the past few days.
George and Dick ponder about all the ballast it took for the fill you see in the picture. Time to get another train load of ballast.
Here you see George continuing the cleanout and deepening of the trench for water to flow easier down the hill.

Dick, Joe Banzer and George bring back some 4x4's to elevate the bridge so it will align better to the existing track. The bridge sitting on the 4x4's which will be spiked down.

Dave Foster with his backpack blower taking care of the leaves on the track at Horrendous. George, Joe, Dick and George moving the table from the engine lift to the siding at Bruce.
George wanted to know which side of the tree to go around so they would all be in agreement. We are going to make a picnic area adjacent to the siding track at Bruce.
Some of the pumpkins that were left over from the Holloween Run. They were hauled back to the station on Sunday so the public could take what they wanted and this was all that remained of them.

We started at the switch at Horrendous and removed the aluminum rail and replaced it with steel rail. George is fastening down the steel rail as Joe watches. You can see the steel rail gages that we use.

As George continues to attach the rail down you can see to the left of him that we replace the outside radius of a curve with steel rail first as it wears faster. We replaced fifty feet of rail up to the grade crossing.
Dick is cutting the aluminum rail where the steel rail ends for the joint. Frank Foti has taken over for George and is finishing the fastening of the rail to the ties. Time to head to the station for supper.
George Davidson, Don Spiedel, Edith Hacker, Emily Kutscher, Ted Nyland and Frank Foti waiting for supper. Dick Clark, Frank Russell and Ron Trenhaile were to my right side at station.

In the kitchen area Kathy Losely, Roger Harnish, Robbi Haines, Kitty Shriver, Rex Shriver, Bill Besselman and Ted Nyland are finishing up supper. This was our next to last official work session for the year.

See you next year when hopefully you will be able to come to the Park and ride the rails with us.
