Blue Berry Railroad - 11/09/13

Family and friends had gathered earlier to celebrate Mike Uhrich's birthday. Mike is in the black and white plaid shirt with mostly his family around him in this photo.
Outside on a steaming bay, Ted Nyland had brought his American and is aided by Ron Malinowski to prepare for getting the engine steamed up to run. Frank Foti is on East Wind, and it appears he stopped to take on a passenger.
Ron Trenhaile, Donna and Bob Craig in conversation with Jeff Stanek about Bob's scratch-built Galloping Goose. A view looking North West at the yard area that is still under development.
Rick Nagy and Ron Malinowski watch as Karl Losely runs the transfer table with the hopper and tank car on the table. Frank Foti arriving back near where the station will be with East Wind.
Mitch Lane sitting astride the tender of the Consolidation steam engine as Ken Brooks in the background slowly leaves the yard area and it's getting cooler. Jeff Stanek coming back into the yard area with Judson Elliott and Ron Trenhaile riding behind him.
Donna and Bob Craig all smiles and they are all bundled up against the cool weather today as they travel eastbound on the mainline. Two of the flat cars on Rick Nagy's train have military tanks for the load.
With Rick's engine and train in the foreground, Mitch Lane heads back up to the steam engine after checking the riders. Frank has pulled up behind Mitch with his train and checks over his engine gauges as he waits for the track to clear ahead of him.
With the blowing of his whistle Mitch opens the throttle on the Consolidation as he starts his next run. Ken Brooks runs by as East Wind simmers on the adjacent track and it's definitely getting cooler out here.
After riding down the 800 foot long straightaway we vear right at the 1st switch to head towards the loop and here we see Mitch coming back from around as he was ahead of us. Dick Clark and Frank Smoley are passing us as they head for the Truss Bridge.
The loop at the farthest West end of the trackage has 3 trains that are getting bunched up off in the distance. As we emerge from the cut that runs parallel to the real railroad tracks at the edge of the property Frank comes into view with his passengers.
Ken with Bob and Donna behind him, wait at the station area for the track to clear ahead. As Mitch shows someone the controls on the Consolidation, Dick and Frank pass by on the mainline.
Dick off in the distance with his SW1500 with Frank and Ron riding behind him. Rick was sitting on his train out on one of the passing tracks and watching all the train traffic rolling by.
Donna and Bob pull into the yard and still manage to smile even though it is getting colder as the sun sets. Frank passes by with East Wind running light as I think the riders think that it's getting too cold to ride anymore.
Mike Harkleroad passes by the photographer running the Consolidation steam engine and also running light, but at least he is smiling. Brett Lane came by shortly running the electric powered box cab that belongs to Mike Uhrich.
Dick arriving back near the loading area and those guys all look cold but having fun. The sun has set even lower and it's getting colder as Dave Foster heads back to the machine shop building for the meeting we have tonight.
Taking one last run as I ride with Frank and we've veared off the 800 foot straight-a-way for the loop. This is what you would call a narrow truss bridge as East Wind rumbles out over it.
Running down the mainline as we approach the yard area to the right. Dave Hird at the controls of a SW9 talks with Frank before running out onto the mainline from the track that goes to the transfer table.
After taking the southern loop Frank takes the curve that will go into the cut shored up with railroad ties to keep the earth back as we head back towards the station area. This view showing how deep the cut can be.
Rick arriving back towards the station area where the track in the foreground left side heads to the transfer table. Back at the machine shop, Dick gets a hand with the transfer table loading his engine and riding car into his pickup from Jeff Stanek.
Kitty Shriver gives a report to the members at the meeting in Roberta Uhrich's absence. I think we all had a good time but wished it could of been a little warmer towards evening.
