12.05.07 Work Session

George Woodling wire brushes the area of a crossing where a guard rail got knocked off as Rick Nagy watches. Last week the guys bought the blue work table and the one behind Rick. The bearings in the trucks on a riding car needed to be replaced.
The bearing cups had expanded to the hole diameter by the wobbling of the axle against the needle bearings. We took the side frames down to the welders and used a torch to heat them and get the races out but it didn't work.
Ken Brooks, Dick Clark, Joe Banzer, Lew Fowler, Frank Foti, George Davidson and George Woodling discuss the next step of action. George brought his new Tom Bee truck so we could disaassemble it and check the tolerances we needed.
The heating treatment didn't work so Ken is trying to chisel them out of the side frames which also didn't work. At this point Dave, who works in HoseMaster's machine shop, milled through the stainless steel casings of the raceway.
Dave just used a smaller sized endmill and cut from one side of the bearing through to the next side and the pieces just dropped out. The crossing after it was re-welded and the guard rail is back in place. They went over all the welds and even added a couple.
Our eight foot riding car on our new work table in a area at HoseMaster that has been set aside for us to use. The cleaned up parts of the truck just awaiting the new bearings we will have to order.
