Holiday Public Run "East Wind Express" - 12/07/13


Ray Dellmore, who is our loader today, is talking to some of the public riders as they wait and are braving the cold and wind of today. Frank Foti with East Wind on the backside of the loop behind the station as he nears the end of his run.
East Wind in front of the station with safety lifted producing volumes of steam vapor in the cold air. Judson Elliott is our passenger counter today with Mitch Lane as engineer at the controls of the GP38 who has just been given the all clear by Ray to start his run.
The line is growing for the public passengers waiting to ride on the trains and they seem to be in good spirits. Ken Brooks as engineer of the Park engine starts his run with his passengers all bundled up against the cold as Rick Nagy watches.
Mitch coming back into the station at the end of his run with Frank Smoley as his conductor. East Wind after having climbed the slight grade from the Covered Bridge to Zip Junction, giving us a visual delight of steam vapors with the whistle blowing will soon be rumbling over the grade crossing.
Ken rolls by after having passed through Horrendous and is now passing Zip Junction with his bundled up passengers. Frank after traveling through Zip Junction, will soon be rumbling over Cider Bridge as he heads towards the station.
Mitch emerging from the Covered Bridge is on the slight grade up to Zip Junction with his passengers. East Wind putting his heels into it as he starts the grade up to Mackey's Run after emerging from the Truss Bridge with his smiling passengers.
Mitch having passed through Fern is on his way towards the Truss Bridge. Ken coasting down grade as he passes Hilde Hill amidst the snow-covered felled trees as he nears Bridge #6.
Next to come by was Frank with East Wind as he coasted down the grade from Hilton headed towards Fern and the Truss Bridge. Ken passes over Patty's Rock Bridge and will soon start the assault on the grade up to High Creek.
East Wind about midspan of Patty's Rock Bridge with vapors showing he's hardly working will soon be giving off the staccato chuffs as he climbs the grade towards High Creek. Mitch about to pass over the crossing for the Branch Line at High Creek as he heads towards Horrendous.
Ken on the Park engine must be getting cold by now from the windchill and running of the GP38 as he passes by adjacent to our yard. Frank with East Wind as he passes by Drudgery on his way towards Hemlock and points West.

Ray in talking with the riders waiting for the trains to come in so they may board and take a snow covered ride that typically only happens once a year for our public runs. Ken approaches the station as he slows his train to a stop with Judy Oscker to aid with the unloading.
A warm place to be with Ken, Dick Clark, Mike Uhrich, George Metts and Edith Hacker trying to keep warm and enjoy some hot coffee in the station. Mike Harkleroad with the Park engine has just come back into the station to unload his passengers with Judy in the background.
Ken departing the station with the GP38 with a trainload of passengers and Lou DeLembo as his conductor on the rear. Mike leaving the station as Frank, Ron, Mike and Mitch stand around the fire pit trying to get some warmth.
Took a walk and caught Mike after coming off the Big Bend Bridge and passing through Pandora with his passengers and they seemed happy enough and enjoying it in spite of the cold. East Wind blasting away amid the exhaust vapors as he charges towards the end of the Big Bend Bridge with his riders.
A few minutes later Ken came into view as he passed over the Big Bend Bridge about midspan on his way towards Pandora and points West. Following some distance behind, Mike crosses the snow-covered Big Bend Bridge westbound.
Standing next to the Big Bend Bridge is a good vantage point as the trains pass by and Frank with East Wind approaches. Mike on the grade past the Truss Bridge as he passes through Mackey's Run heads for the Big Bend Bridge.
Ken having passed through Zip Junction will soon be crossing over Cider and Festival Bridge on his way back to the station. East Wind blasts out of the Covered Bridge as he starts to work the grade up to Zip Junction with the exhaust vapors rising high over Frank's head.
Ray talking to the last of the group who braved the cold and the wind waiting to ride the trains. Frank pulls into the station with some of the last group of riders and this year's East Wind Express Run for 2013 is nearly over.
East wind's running mechanism is starting to coat up with ice from the steam vapors from the blowdown valve on the cylinders. Ken coming back into the station with the last load of passengers and it's time to get a hot cup of coffee and warm up.
