Work Session - 12/10/08

For our first work session at Hose Master we met at the Park to pick up two engines and four rider cars. Ken Brooks, Frank Foti and Dick Clark started. Rick Nagy had to move equipment around so we could get the items needed.
The Park service contracted a tree service to drop two trees so last week they did the work. This is a view toward Hemlock with the Branch Line to the left and the Main Line to the right.
The Branch Line damage up close. You can see where they removed a section of the tree trunk. The switch at the right had minor damage which pushed the rail out of gauge.
You can get a very good idea of the magnitude of the force of the falling tree on the track from the depression it left. This is a view looking from the other side back towards our station in the distance.
This is looking at the Branch Line toward High Creek and the crossing there with the two Main Line tracks. The Branch Line track just before the crossing.
The two Main Line tracks with the one skewed with a kink from the force of the dropping tree. A view from the other side looking toward High Creek and you will notice a short section of rail in the lower right hand side of the picture that popped out of place.
The Branch line rail cracked from the force. This is a view up near Hemlock at the new roller coaster ride that was created.
Back at the storage shed we loaded two riding cars into Dick's truck. Ken is going for his truck to load the club engine and rider car into it.
Ken tying down the equipment for the journey to Hose Master. Dick, Paul Emch and Frank watch as Ken raises the lift to match the height of the trailer to roll out the work engine.
With the work engine loaded on the lift, we'll move it to our work area that has been set aside for us. The club's GP38 is next and we're on our way to the new area we were moved to, we won't be by the delivery door any more.
Frank and Ken work on replacing the chain because of a derailment that twisted the chain on the truck and broke it. We took off the trucks of a rider car and Paul is disassembling them to check the bearings.
Bill Deptowicz removed the compressor and disassembled it and found that the armature in the motor burned up. Dick is marking the parts box lid for this truck as Ken takes the truck apart and Dave Foster is behind them.
