Winter Public Run - 12/10/2011

On a cold breezy day Frank Foti comes into the station behind East Wind with club members as passengers before the start of the Public Run. Is it my imagination or does East Wind look mad today? Cause he looks steamed up about something. Maybe he doesn't like the 27° temperature.
The public is in line waiting to ride the trains and in a few minutes we will start loading passengers. Frank takes time at the loading zone with his sister Renée Czeck for a picture before Marty Pinkston starts loading his train.
Ken Brooks departs the station with his trainload of passengers and Bob Pakeltis on the rear as his conductor. Marty has just finished loading Richard Sales train and Richard is advancing the throttle and heading on down the Main Line.
Ken arrives back at the station and Ray Delmore, Kitty Shriver dressed up as a Christmas Elf, Judson Elliott and David Foster assist with the unloading. Could this ice on East Wind be compared to the frost on the pumpkin?
With Frank's train all loaded and Judy Oscker as his conductor they depart the station on another run on a cold blustery day. Judson Elliott brought his electric powered engine that he's working on, building from scratch, and heads down the Main Line with his passengers.
We had a dusting of snow overnight which helps to set off East Winds dark shape as Frank approaches the track on the backside of the station near the end of his run. Judson with his passengers as he emerges from the Covered Bridge.
Ken with his trainload of cold passengers as he passes through Zip Junction on his way back to the station. Frank having just passed through Hilton will start the long grade down through Gulch and Hilde Hill on his way through Fern and points beyond.
Richard on the mainline at the South Yard Lead switch along with his passengers is all bundled up against the windchill of going 6 miles an hour in this cold weather. Dick Clark near the same location with a SW6 as he heads down grade for Hilde Hill and points West.
East Wind with exhaust barking as he comes upgrade from Gulch will soon pass over Zenith Culvert on his way to High Creek with John Deptowicz as conductor on the rear. Dick as he rumbles over Patty's Rock Bridge, framed by the trees, is beyond the halfway point with the ride.
Here we see Frank with East Wind coming out of the Covered Bridge with the sun shining but adding no warmth to the ride. Mike Harkleroad at the controls of the SW6 as he approaches the Covered Bridge with a full load of passengers and Kitty Shriver at the rear as his conductor.
East Wind with safeties lifted giving Frank a condensed steam bath in the cold wind as he is about to pass over Festival Bridge on his way back to the station. Another view of East Wind passing through Horrendous will soon be passing through Zip Junction on its way back to the station.
Mike as he passes through Horrendous following behind Frank with his cold passengers will soon disembark at the station. Judson at High Creek will soon rumble with the clickity-clack over the crossing of the Branchline with the Main Line.
Mike just having passed through Shoe will soon be entering the Covered Bridge with his train on his way west. At the station as colds as it was, the public was still waiting in line for the chance to ride a train as John walks in the foreground with a cup of hot chocolate.
Mike coast to a stop in front of the station with his load of passengers as they get ready to disembark the train. Frank with East Wind at Zip Junction where the track presents a pleasing geometric pattern.
Frank with East Wind as they approach Horrendous and the sun has disappeared behind the clouds making it even colder. Mike having passed through High Creek will soon pass Gillette on his way to Horrendous.
East Wind pounding the rails at Hemlock amid a cloud of steam vapors in the cold air as the sun slowly starts to settle in the sky. As East Wind heads for Hilton and the long downgrade its 3:15 PM and we have less than an hour of daylight left.
Mike as he approaches the signalpost at Hemlock just a few minutes into his run from the station. A view of East Wind through the woods after departing Horrendous and about to pass through Zip Junction on his way back to the station.
Frank with East Wind and the remaining light as he just passes the cutoff to Short as he continues on the Main Line with his next run. The crowd back at the station is thinning out as Mike checks over the engine as Marty loads his passengers.
Ken departs the station with a full load of passengers as Marty points to the photographer. Frank with East Wind and Marie Nyland in the background who has been assisting with the unloading of the trains as Marty, with his back to us, waits for Frank to pull forward to load.
Ken waits for Marty to give riding instructions to the passengers before departing the station with Ted Nyland as his conductor on the rear. Ken has the last load of passengers and it is really getting cold out, time for a hot cup of coffee.
