Winter Public Run - 12/12/09

It's a cold December 12th as Lou DeLembo, Ken Brooks and Rick Nagy check the steam pressure in East Wind prior to the run. Frank Foti has East Wind all decked out with a Christmas wreath around the headlight on the smoke box door.
Ken and Rick watch Frank as he adds water to the tender from a bucket because the water to the station has been shut off. Bonnie Zaken is adding some more branches to the fire pit as Edith Hacker watches.
Edith and Bonnie keep away from the smoke and are waiting to add some larger logs to the fire. Karen Studd talks to Dave Foster as Frank departs with the first load of passengers as Ken and Mike Harkleroad watch the proceedings.
Mike Uhrich bundled up against the cold as Kitty Shriver hands something to Karen Studd. Karen loads passengers as Ken watches his train being loaded as the sunshine belies the warmth of the temperature.
Edith in the background as our Elf Kitty, all decked out, poses for the photographer. Frank coming into the station behind East Wind with a load of passengers who have to be cold.
After taking on a new load of passengers Frank is ready to start his next run. It's so cold how does Kitty keep that cheery smile? I guess doing something we all enjoy, helping in running trains.
Ken just coming off Cider Bridge on his way back into the station as he is near to the end of his run. Rick passing through the covered bridge on his way to Zip Junction.
A little while later I found Rick coasting down the hill from Gulch as he passed over Bridge #6. Following behind, Frank with his trainload of passengers just passed through Gulch.
Ken taking the 3%+ grade up the hill at Gulch with his bundled up load of passengers. Rick starting down grade as he passes the West Yard lead into the new storage shed.
Bob Charles Bassett is all smiles as he takes delivery of his new engine from Richard Sales(MR-Motion.net). Ray Dellmore behind Ken's switcher giving Ken a break as Karen and Brad Studd, in red coats, load his train.
For such a cold day we didn't have a shortage of riders. Frank took time out from running for a trip to the ash pit by our water tower to drop the ashes from East Winds fire box.
Many riders took advantage of the photo opportunity after they got back ot the station with Kitty and Paul Emch show here. Ken back behind his engine and is leaving the station on his next run.
Brad gives instructon to the riders on Franks' train and Lou DeLembo is the conductor at the rear. Brad and Karen did a good job of getting the trains loaded and out of the station and that's Paul with Bob Charles as conductor.
Paul on another run and Bob is checking out the load before departing. Brad and Karen watch as a father switches the seating with his child and the GP38 waits for the track to clear to pull ahead and load.
Ken hasn't left the station yet but Mike has been signaled to move up to the loading area. Paul has just passed through Pandora on his way to the covered bridge and Zip Junction which is about the halfway point for the ride.
East Wind in a billowing cloud of steam as Frank blows her whistle on the Big Bend Bridge. Mike is all smiles even though he is cold as the GP38 trundles out on Big Bend Bridge with a full load of passengers.
Paul following a few minutes behind is on the curve at Ridgeway and will soon be on the Big Bend Bridge. Ken at the same location with his riders trying to keep warm.
Frank with East Wind giving off a crisp barking exhaust pulling her load as she nears the top of the grade past Mackeys' Run. Mike at the same location with a low setting sun giving off its rays of light.
Bob at the end of the line to limit the riders to only those who were still in line ahead of him. Dick Clark and Mike standing behind a cold looking Karen as she waits for the last train to pull up and load the last two riders.
Marie Nyland stood at the end point of the ride at the station and passed out peppermint candies to the riders. Ken watches as the last of his riders depart the train and although it was cold out it was a good run.
