Dick Clark and George Woodling were drilling a hole in the cast journal box to use a pin and drive out the axle bearing. Frank Foti and Ken Brooks starting the disassembly of East Wind boiler as she has a leaking tube.

The running board is off on this side of the boiler as Ken works on the other side. George and Dick continue with the task of removing the wheel bearings and Rick Nagy worked on removing the other car trucks and setting them on the table.

Slowly but surely the fittings and attachments to the boiler were removed. I was degreasing the truck side frames, wheels and springs in the machine shop and when I can back Frank and Ken were removing the valves and fittings from the backhead of the firebox.

George ponders over the removal of the bearings in the next side frame. Dick drilling more holes as George holds down the truck side frame with the bad bearing in it.

The pieces of piping, valves and sight gauge are being removed so that the cab can be taken off. The running boards and parts are set out in Frank's trailer.

I wonder if Frank will remember where all the parts came from and be able to put it all back together without parts left over? The cab has been removed and Ken works on removing the fittings on the backhead.

Rick and Dick look on as Frank considers how to get the sheeting off from over the fire box. After removing the banding from around the boiler the casement was removed exposing the white insulation wrapped around the boiler.

They are working on getting a stainless ring off from around the back of the smoke box which was used as a seal to keep water from getting to the insulation. After popping it loose Ken removes the insulation from over the firebox in one piece.

With three engines stripped down it looks more like a salvage yard than a repair shop. East Wind looking more like just a "shell" of her former beauty as the guys start cleaning up for today.

Works of art in various stages of "completion" with much to do. East Wind will have her boiler tubes cut out and inspection of the boiler and decision will be made to retube or replace the boiler.
