Work Session - 2/04/09

The handle on one of our 8 foot long rider cars has to be removed for the brake control panel. George Woodling was cleaning up the bottom of one of our older center sill riding cars in preparation for painting the bottom.
Dave Foster brought in his cut-off tool and proceeded to make short work of grinding the welds on the handle. Bill Deptowicz was trying to figure a way to support the compressor and clear the limit switch.
Joe Banzer was trying to remove a wheel bearing and it was proving to be just that...trying. Dave cut off a bolt that was welded on, as George Metts brought a new air compressor so the mounting situation changed.
Frank Foti's boiler was off East Wind and setting on a pallet. Next up it has to be decided whether to retube it or make a new boiler for East Wind.
East Wind looking a shell of her former self without the boiler...I wonder where Frank will mount the 16 H.P. Briggs and Stratton motor? Some suggested to go electric and fill the area of the boiler with batteries, but alas, Frank's a steam man.
Ken Brooks and Ted Nyland are busy building switches and are well into the construction of switch No. 4. Ted is working on the points and everything is almost like a production.
The handle has been cut off and the metal will be needing some touch-up paint to protect from rusting. Bill has the top bracket figured out but has to come up with a bracket to support the bottom lug of the compressor.
