Work Session - 2/25/09

George Woodling and Ken Brooks are drilling rail for making another switch which will go to the Blue Berry RR. A close up and personal look inside of East Wind's boiler with the flues removed. That pipe will be replaced also.
Karl Losely and Marcel Uhrich came after our last weeks work session ended and burned out the flues and firebox inside walls on East Wind making her just a shell of her former self. They ground off the stay welds and punched them through.
The steel tubes are so rusted you can see that the water in the boiler didn't flow around them very well to transfer heat. Every body is working, Frank Foti grinding the welds, Dick Clark working on truck brakes and Dave Foster working on brake line tubing.
Dick going over the brake cyclinders for the trucks on one of our riding cars. Dave filing down an aluminum shim for the console we are adding to the engineers car.
Bill Deptowicz was marking and drilling the holes in the car for mounting the console as Dave and Lew Fowler watched. Rick Nagy was trial mounting the gauges and brake controller for fit.
Joe Banzer working with a file to smooth a sharp edge on the steps of the loco that he noticed while reassembling the dummy brakes and hangers. The console that Dave made is sitting on the end of the car.
Dave using a torch to heat the steam dome which Frank was told was threaded and had a rubber o-ring for a seal. Dave working the torch all around the steam dome cap with the heat.
The previous owner gave Frank a spanner wrench burned out of 1/2 inch thick plate to use in removing the cap which we had to heat and pound on the 2"sq. tube extension handle. The steam dome plates after removing the cap.
