Work Session 7/29/15

Matthew Bolyard works on a switch across from the water tower by the steaming bays to change the guard rail protecting the frog. Frank Smoley working on the brake line trying to bleed the brakes on the GP38 club engine.
Frank was having a problem trying to get air out of the line for the disc brake on the engine. Frank and Wayne Boron worked on the problem and came up with a solution and finally got the problem cured and now it will be easier to bleed the brakes on Big Red.
Harry Tabor and Ron Trenhaile took to the task of supporting the power cable to the transfer table by first adding a mast to support the cable overhead. They then strung a horizontal cable just above the door opening to support the coiled power cable.
They added hooks to support the power cable loops that will slide along the cable as the transfer table moves across the opening of the door. Closeup of the cable support, power box(relocated from inside) and the loops that support the power cable.
This view showing the weatherproof cable connector at the box, strain relief for the power cable connection and connecton of the support cable. Steve Zaken and Ron watch as Harry loops the power cord and attaches the loops to the support hooks.
The transfer table lift comes in handy to raise Harry to the right height for working on the cable support. Judson Elliott works on lubricating and any adjustments needed on the yard switches behind Willis Car Barn.
During the day I found Dan Burnett was taking a red tailed Hawk that is under the Park's care for a walk. Pat Morse was also along carrying an owl for the walk in the woods and I was able to get these pictures.
The third member of the group, which I failed to get his name, was also carrying an owl for their little outing walk. The three of them posing with the birds for me before they started back.
John Koontz and Ken Brooks have the ballast car on the siding alongside of the ballast pile and start to fill it with ballast. Frank Foti running the Park engine with Dick Clark watching as the limestone flows out the control chute on the Branch Line near Lionel Bridge.
Here Frank is running the ballast car just up to the Lionel Bridge as Steve watches. John and Ken wait to see if Dick, as he sights down the rail, gives his approval on the condition of the rail or whether it has to be adjusted before tamping in the new ballast.
Frank and Wayne fixed the brake line bleeding problem by adding a tee to the high spot in the brake line to bleed out any air we may encounter in the future. The finished power cable support which will let the cord slide across the door opening an won't be underfoot any more.
Here you can see the support mast on the transfer table along with the power cable coiled on the support cable. A view with the coils of power cable initially grouped at one end of the support cable.
