Work Session 8/12/15

Ron Trenhaile and Wayne Boron work on one of our portable lights we use for our night runs at either the loading area or unloading area. They are checking out the wire connections to the ceramic bulb socket in which they stripped the wire and reconnected them.
Ron checks out the tightness of the ceramic socket mounting before they plug the unit in to check their work. The track crew was working at Zip Junction leveling the rails as Dick Clark is doing here before we re-ballasted the track.
Dick checking how level he adjusted the rails of the track as he proceeds along by prying up any low spots with the track adjuster. Taren Hillger watches as Dick spots the chute on the ballast car at the edge of Cider Bridge for Frank Foti who is backing up the train.
As Frank starts forward with the train Dick moves the ballast inside the car to the chute gate opening as the stone drops alongside the track. Dick continues with the process as the train moves toward Zip Junction.
After Dick opened another chute gate, Frank starts backing up the train to ballast the track between Cider Bridge and Festival Bridge. Using the shovel to pry out the chute gate, Dick starts the flow of ballast on the far side of Festival Bridge.
With the chute gate open Dick pulls it all the way out so all the ballast will be used. Frank continues until he empties the ballast car of it's load.
After reloading the ballast car, Frank backs up the train spreading the gravel along the opposite side of the track as he heads for Sharp. The ballast car lays down a bed of limestone in a nice even and level layer alongside of the track.
Dick operates the chute gate on this side of the car to ballast the inside of the loop coming into the station. He again removes the chute gate to dump the remaining ballast in the car.
Frank running the ballast sweeper at Zip Junction which makes easy of the work instead of by hand with a push broom that we used to do. Since the power broom is only so wide, Ron Trenhaile touches up the ridge of ballast to smooth it down as the finishing touch.
