Work Session - 9/16/15

Today we are going to look at the railroad signal by the steaming bays as the yellow light is on but very dim. Wasn't sure if it was the bulb or the power supply.
After I opened the signal case you could see the bulb was very dim and exchanging it with one of the others produced the same results. George Metts, our resident electrican, opened the power supply box which also holds the electronics for the remote radio signal circuit board.
George pulling out the relay control board to see if that is the problem. George checked for any obvious loose wires going to the terminal block and all seems O.K.
George is holding the relay board and checking to see if any componets are burnt or discolored from heat, then checked the voltage and decided it was the power supply. Meanwhile Dave Cryor was cutting the grass by the fence and steaming bays.
Our grade crossing track coming out of Horrendous needed leveling and Tom Reder and John Koontz are digging out alongside the side boards. John shovels off the dirt and stone from the top of the boards.
John continues scraping along the top of the rails for the length of the crossing. Bob Pakeltis uses a pick to see if he can pry the crossing assembly up to make it level and he could, as the crew watches.
As Bob held the panel up, ballast was put in place with Ken Brooks and Dick Clark tamping it into place while we check progress with a level on the track. A closer view of the exposed side panels that we tamped ballast under to raise them up.
Looking down the crossing you can see how much we cleaned out to level the track. Ron cleaning the mud from between the rails and the dirt we removed still has to be taken away and that will finish this project.
