"East Wind" Express Winter Run 12/12/15

Frank Foti with East Wind departs the station with the first load of passengers which we started one half hour early because of the long line waiting. Ken Brooks talks with the loader, Greg Guy on this unusually warm day for Dec. 12th and the line is getting longer.
Bob Craig with his diesel powered switcher is loaded with passengers and slowly gains speed as he departs Shriver Station. Ron Malinowski will soon be back at the station with his passengers as he nears the end of his first run.
Richard Sales and his electric powered train emerges from the Covered Bridge as he heads for Zip Junction. Frank at the same location as he blasts out of the Covered Bridge, with East Wind easily taking the slight grade up to Zip Junction.
Coasting down the long grade from Hilton, Dick Clark running the Park engine with Taren Hillger as conductor, will soon pass over Bridge No.6. John Deptowicz with his Snoopy train just passed Hilde Hill as he heads for Fern and points West.
Ron with his passengers gives us a wave as he climbs the 3 1/2+ percent grade up to High Creek. John with the Snoopy train comes by High Creek with another load of passengers as he heads for Horrendous.
Passing through Horrendous, heading for Filmor, I caught Richard in the lens as he powered by with a full load of passengers. After passing through High Creek on his way to Horrendous, Bob passed under our signal bridge we are building.
Frank with East Wind and his conductor Renee Czak head for Horrendous after passing through Zip Junction. Paul Zorko with his red Fireball Express train, having just left the station, heads for Drudgery.
Ron and Bob behind him on Track #1 wait to be loaded as Greg and Paul Emch load passengers on Dick's train. Bob waits for Richard to depart the station with his load of passengers, so his train will be loaded.
Inside the station there was a log cabin made out of the large pretzels with icing and ginger bread accessories that was made by Marie Nyland with gum drops on the roof. Fantastic job at crafting.
Bill Deptowicz at the controls of the Snoopy train nearing the end of the run as he heads back into the station. Paul running the Fireball Express, passes over Festival Bridge as he heads back to the station with his riders.
Bob, following some distance behind, crosses over the bridge and starts on the loop around the back of Shriver Station. Frank passed through Pandora with East Wind, his steam powered train and his riders with his conductor Renee.
John pulling away from the station with his passengers as Paul watches Greg trying for a group of passengers to fill his train. Richard pulls away from the loading area with Frank on the adjacent track waiting to start loading.
East Wind, with his whistle blowing and venting steam, pulls away from the station with a load of passengers.... Frank's just along for the ride. At the station, Kitty Shriver in red pants, helps with the unloading of the trains as with Ken who just arrived.
It's almost 4 o'clock and look at that line, we started at 12:30 which the run is usually 1:00 - 3:00 and we will run till they all get their ride. At the unloading area Kitty helps the families by using their cameras to take pictures of them if requested.
I wonder if the one young lass seems to be thinking "Oh come on mom, take the picture so I can get out of this car." Dave Woldman advances the throttle as the big engine starts it's next run as the train with the passengers depart the station.
Paul at the controls engages the shifter and the Fireball Express train starts out on another run. Bill Besselman, our current passenger counter, talks to the riders as Dick waits for the "All Aboard" signal to move the train and Logan Tapolyai is his conductor.
The line was so long some of the riders said they waited almost an hour and a half but they were good natured about it since we had a large turnout. Dick leaving the station with another load of passengers.
Mike Harkleroad got the Camelback steam engine fired up and running and is leaving the station with his passengers. As the sun wains, Frank leaves the station and East Wind with safeties lifted starts to gain speed with his loaded train.
After a long wait these riders can still smile as the Fireball Express starts rolling. This family is ready to ride as they wait for the train to start moving. We would like to thank the public as we usually give between 200 and 300 rides for our winter run but today we had 979 riders because of warm weather.
East Wind with cylinder cocks open, safeties lifted and the whistle blowing heads on down the track for another run. Dick Clarks family was present so I took this photo of the group for them.
