Rail Fest - 3/19/16


Penitentiary Glen Park brought this picture board that they made up about our club for display along with the Park schedules of events. This is a view of the display area we had for the show because we weren't allow to display in the lobby per the Fire Marshalls request.
Frank Foti brought "Just Jake", a 2-6-0 Mogul steam engine, for display with a card informing you of it's history. Bill Deptowicz had his swayback stock car on display, a tribute to John Allen of Gorre & Daphetid fame(look it up on the internet).
Bill also brought in a picture storyboard on the building of the stock car from scratch and Mike Harkleroad suggested displaying it on top of his Reading coal hopper car. Ken Brooks brought his steeple cab electric powered engine for display.
Don Speidels' conductor car was put on display which nicely depicts a work flat car. Also on display in 1/8th scale is this covered hopper car lett ered for the Penn Central railroad very nicely done.
Paul Zorko had his SW9 diesel engine on display for his Fire Ball Express that is a Morris engine with a 5hp Honda gas engine. Kevin Harris brought in a pair of Drop Equalized Tender Trucks for display that he uses for a tender.
Kevin also brought a wheel set comprised of the axle, set of wheels and the bearings on the end of the axle. Roy Harris had his chassis of an American class steam locomotive, a 4-4-0 for display.
Mike Harkleroad displayed the wood crummy he's working on(caboose) which looks as though he just needs to detail and paint it. John Deptowicz brought his Snoopy train engine and caboose with all the characters in the caboose or riding outside.
Wally Pausch had his newly painted SW9 on display in all it's splendor lettered for the Indiana Harbor Belt. Kevin also brought this chassis showing the construction used and that it can be used for a car or tender.
Kevin built this Boston & Albany tender for a steam engine which will eventually suppy water for the engine it rides behind. At our table dispays the video presentations that we kept running of our 1/8 scale trains caught a lot of interest by attendees.
Wally talks with an attendee in the forground with others looking over our displays as Frank Foti runs a video on the wall behind them. This young lad has got the best way to get around the show without his feet getting tired, maybe not so for Dad though.
The attraction of the trains no matter what scale is endeared by young and old combined with the fascination. Frank with the equipment he brought, setting up another video to project on the wall as attendees wait for the viewing to begin.
An arms reach overhead view of the activity in our display area a little later on. Our members circulated around the display area answering questions posed to them.
Mike talks about the cars on display as Frank behind him talks with another attendee about the trains. Linda Harris, enjoying a snack, was "manning" our tables for the static steam engines on display.
This year Roy Harris brought his collection of the stationary steam engine with fourteen shop tools it would power nicely laid out on a display board. A family enjoying the video of 1/8 scale trains running at ours and other club tracks.
At times there was a good crowd around our displays which we enjoyed. Roy Harris, standing behind the display of his steam engines, is in conversation with an attendee with member Dave Woldman at left.
Rosemary, of the Penitentiary Glen Park service where our track is located, talks with an attendee about the schedule of events coming up this summer. Also on display were live steam miniature trains with their cars and the live steam tractor.
Some closeup views of the different types of shop tools powered by belt or steam from the steam plant. A lot of tools were run off of jackshafts with belts that were connected to the tools in days of old.
Roy displayed telegraph keys and had one wired up to a battery so that it could be "played" with the clicking sound for the youngsters. Roy also had small steam engines running on air for a mobile display.

A single cylinder Stuart 10V steam engine that you can buy the castings for and finish it yourself. This last engine is two cylinder and could probably power a 10-12 foot long boat which also belongs to Roy.
