Work Session - 8/03/16

The octagon picnic table that was donated to the club from John and Amy Deptowicz years back and resides behind Shriver Station has deteriorated from the ravishes of the weather. Being unsafe to use now we decided to dismantle and scrap it.
Too many boards would need to be replaced and it would be just a matter of time before the existing wood started to decay also. Ken Brooks and Dave Cryor start dismantling the table and loading the wheelborrows with the wood.
John Koontz and Grayson Talion, Paul Emch's grandson, joined in for the task at hand. John using a sledge hammer reduced the table to pieces that could readily be handled and fit in the wheelborrow.
Making good progress in the dismantling of the table. Dave applies a little finesse to help a stubborn connection part ways.
It was decided that the last three pieces could be transported to the dumpster as they were without breaking them down further. John and Frank Foti untieing the tarp over the club's latest addition provided by Frank.
It's a Kabota diesel powered tractor with a front end loader and a box pan for grading on the rear. John Koontz, the former owner, runs through the controls for operating the tractor with Frank.
Frank departs the storage yard as he heads for the woods and our next project. Dick Clark moves away for Frank to cross the tracks as Ron relocates a track panel out of the way.
Dick describes where to grade a path for the track right-a-way with Frank. That box pan behind the tractor really saved a lot of hours digging by hand to clear a path.
In just a short time the right-a-way was cleared as John, Ron, Dick and Ken watched the progress that Frank was making. Here Frank is clearing for the curved track that will tie into the turning spur.
Frank backs the rig up where we will have a switch, to level the right-a-way for the track panels. Ken, our club president, looks over the cleared right-a-way we managed to clear out today. A good days work.
