Work Session - 8/31/16

Ron Trenhaile and Frank Smoley take apart a truck to work on the set of wheels on a bench by the Stanek Car Barn. They are removing the bolster from the side frame of the truck.
Frank Foti had just gotten the ballast car out of storage shed and was going for the front end loader to start loading ballast. Frank, having scooped up a bucket of ballast, manuvers the tractor towards the ballast car.
Ken Brooks watches as Frank approaches the car to dump the bucket load of ballast into it. The bucket was rotated and ballast filled into the car, what a change from when we use to shovel it into the car by hand.
Frank jockies the tractor towards the opposite end of the car for the next load. Ken runs the engine with the ballast car as he heads towards the sidings at Shriver Station.
The siding adjacent to the mainline at the end of the station with newly placed ballast on one side. The next load of ballast had more fines in it and Frank is using a shovel to feed it to the chute on the ballast car as Ken slowly moves along.
After Ken backed the ballast train to the end of the siding Frank opened up the chute gate and Ken starts to move forward spreading the ballast. Frank reaches for the shovel as Ken, with another load of ballast, backs into the siding.
In this view the three sidings and the run through to the Orchard Yard track are ballasted and partially swept down. The first siding that we did also needs the final sweeping to finish the project.
The Park is adding a shallow pond in a play area designated for children to have their area in the Park and the bulldozer is clearing away the sod as they rework the area. The operator is pushing the soil to create an embankment for the crawl through pipe tunnel.
On the opposite side close to the parking lot he has started another embankment of soil. As he adds soil to the mound, he drives the dozer over it compacting the soil down.
