Public Run - 9/11/16


Mark Harkleroad working on the Camelback steam engine helping his son Mike to get it ready to steam up for the run today. Skip Frank has moved "Lynn" onto one of the steaming bays and is starting to raise steam in the boiler as he lubricates the side rods of the running gear.
East Wind sitting on another steaming bay as he takes on water to fill his boiler before the fire is started in the firebox. Behind Stanek Car Barn the cars are being switched to make up the trains for todays run.
Paul Zorko talks with Frank Smoley, who is heading out of the yard with Wayne Boron riding behind, as Judson Elliott walks toward the car barn. Judson watches as Paul Emch with his NKP Hudson pulls Frank's passenger cars to a yard track as John Riba rides a car helping with switching.
Frank approaches the yard with East Wind to pick up his passenger cars that make up his train. Frank watches as Paul pulls the cars down towards the end of the siding track for Frank to couple them on to his engine.
Today a cake was brought to the station to celebrate Phyllis Speidel's birthday before the start of the run. Phyllis Speidel is 49 years young, cause my mother told me you never ask a lady her age.
Linda Harris watches as her dad, Roy Harris, starts cutting the cake for all to enjoy. I told Frank to smile as I tried to see if I could get a picture of him along with the end of his train.. four cars over forty feet long.
Frank checking out East Wind as he departs Shriver Station with his trainload of passengers as Roy Harris gives riding instructions to the passengers on Ken Vendlingers' train. The last cars of his train with Judy Oscker as his conductor pass by.
Ken starts his train rolling after Frank cleared the switches ahead that will switch his train to over to the main line. Frank Smoley departs the station with Wayne Boron as his conductor on his first run today.
Bob Craig with his diesel powered switcher has taken on a load of passengers with Lew Fowler as conductor and has started his run. Ron Malinowski, engineer on the GP38, leaving the station with Lou DeLembo as his conductor and a nice load of youngsters.
Bill Deptowicz at the controls of the Snoopy train as he nears Shoe and the Covered Bridge heading West. Paul Emch on the track parrallel to the Covered Bridge has just passed over Cider Bridge with his train.
Richard Sales, in regal style as engineer of the Park's engine, as the train passes over Cider Bridge. Dick Clark's trainload of passengers heading for Shoe and the Covered Bridge, enjoying the ride with Bonnie Zaken as conductor. .
As Frank passes by you can see the steam vapor behind the tender from him blowing the whistle for the photographer. Richard waits for traffic ahead to clear before pulling up to the unloading area as Jen Zorko watches the picture taking.
Ted Nyland and his interurbans have taken on passengers loaded by Kevin Harris as they wait for the train ahead to depart Shriver Station. John Riba has been given the "All Aboard" call to move his train and is advancing the throttle to begin this run.
Frank in front of the station on track #1 with East Wind after unloading his passengers and Richard is on track #2 as they wait to move to the loading area. The activity at the station as the waiting trains move forward toward the loading area.
John Deptowicz, having unloaded his passengers, walks his Snoopy train forward to stretch his legs between runs. Jen walks back to the next train arriving at the station as conductor Steve Zaken passes by on Clark's train to load passengers.
Frank Smoley arriving back at the station as he pulls in alongside of Judy Oscker, conductor on Foti's train. A young lass crosses the track in front of East Wind under the watchful eye of her parents as Frank talks with them.
East Wind being loaded by Roy Harris with Frank at the left with his train watching the activity, let's be frank as there are two Frank's at the station waiting to be loaded. Frank giving a snack to East Wind before he departs.
Bob Craig arriving back at the station with a full load of passengers and Linda Harris as his conductor. Looking forward at the loading area, we see a train being loaded as a few wait their turn to take on passengers.
Passengers departing as more trains arrive at the unloading area. John arriving back at the station with a light load of passengers and he takes mainline track #2.
A few minutes later, Mike Harkleroad pulls into the station with the Camelback steamer as the end of the public run draws near. Skip arriving with his circus train, a smooth running Columbia steam engine named "Lynn".
