Work Session - 9/21/16

Skip Frank and Judson Elliott in Shriver Station take time out from their conversation for a picture. The Park had put down and graded the clay base for the new pond and it is filling up nicely.
In fact when I talked with them they had to pump it down to work on the overflow plumbing which will regulate the height of the water in the pond. Some of the area on the west side of the path that had some pipe routing done.
They are routing some of the water here toward the pond so in the hot summer the level of water will be maintained. Today we will finish laying the track to connect to the switch with Ken Brooks, Dick Clark and Ron Trenhaile taking a break after getting the tools and ties out to the work area.
Ken is drilling the holes for the rail joiners as Frank Foti gets into position to start fastening the rail down and Ron checks the end of the next piece of rail. Ken is drilling four holes for each rail joiner.
Frank is finishing up fastening down that section of rail and and it just needs to be aligned with the rail on the switch. With the track aligned and one rail cut to length, connection has been achieved with the switch.
This is a closer look at the rail joining the switch. Dick cutting the rail to length after having measured the distance to finish the track panels to the switch.
With holes in the end of the rail, Ken and Ron are putting the rail joiners together as Frank waits to fasten the rail down to the ties. Frank just has a few more ties to be screwed to the rail.
Ron is using the tie lifter as Frank drives in the screws. A view looking over the track panels tied into the yard lead.
A view from near the yard lead towards the new switch where the guys are finishing up the connection. With the new rails bent to the radius, Frank starts fastening down the rail to the ties leading from the switch.
Ron and Ken add more ties to keep ahead of Frank. We got the equivalent of two more track panels assembled from the switch on the ground and thats it for today.
