Work Session - 10/12/16

Ron Trenhaile and John Koontz are taking the pumpkins from the boxes on pallets that the Park provided and setting them on the grade wall. Trish Koontz and Judy Oscker are cleaning out the innerds of the pumpkins that John cut the tops out.
Ron takes a breather from carrying pumpkins as Anna Zorko starts cleaning out the insides of some pumpkins. Inside the station Jen Zorko works on getting the candles ready to put into the pumpkins which will happen on Friday evening.
The pumpkins with their tops cut out that have to be cleaned are on the seat bench and will soon go through the production line of Trish, Judy and Anna. Bob Beardslee deep in thought as he works carving his pumpkin.
John was using a battery powered Dewalt saws-all to make an angular cut to remove the tops of the pumpkins. Down by the Willis Carn Barn, Frank Smoley was re-assembling a truck that had it's wheels turned down on a lathe.
Since the track crew was going to do some ballasting, the ballast sweeper was rolled out of the shed....on to the ground. After being re-railed the sweeper was moved by train to where we had last placed track for turning trains.
John running the GP38 coupled onto the ballast car and is moving it to the ballast pile for loading. John running the front end loader making easy work of loading the ballast car.
After John spread one load, Dick Clark took to running the sweeper down the newly ballasted track. This is the track section that Dick was sweeping the ballast on.
This year we had a lighter turnout for carving pumpkins so I guess it was good that we had less than 120 pumpkins to carve. As the pumpkins were finished carving they were moved to tne railroad tie grade beams to await transportation to the storage barns.
Valerie Bilchak and Bob Beardslee carving the faces on their pumpkins. Mike Uhrich works on starting his next creation as his daughter Margaret Howell, on the other side of the table, takes to the task at hand and works on carving her pumpkin.
Roberta Uhrich holds a carved pumpkin along with Nora Howell and James Uhrich with Marcel Uhrich on this side of the table with Kate Uhrich behind him. With felt tip marker in hand, Andy Yedlick starts drawing the facial features on the pumpkin before he starts carving.
Kitty Shriver talking with Roberta as she holds her grandaughter Bridey Uhrich in front of Shriver Station. Kitty digging out some pumpkin seeds from the bucket as the rest of the crew works on pumpkin carving.
A study in concentration as Andy works methodically to create the image on the face of the hollowed out pumpkin shell. Kity in conversation with Pam Znidar in front of Shriver Station named in honor for Kitty and her husband Rex Shriver.
Mike Harkleroad and Ron Malinowski bringing the GP38 up to the station to start transporting pumpkins to the storage sheds. Ron and Mike loading the train with the pumpkins that are on the grade wall.
Kathy Losely showing off her creation of a carved pumpkin while Dave Woldman shows how to make the first plunge of a knife into the pumpkin...just spoofing! Kathy showing how she can use her head or else maybe two heads are better than one?
Maybe Dave wasn't spoofing with a grip on the knife like that as he carves away at the face in his pumpkin. The work crew has thinned out quite a bit as evening starts to set in.
Ron and Mike are loading the second trainload of pumpkins to take down to the storage barns which will be stored till friday and set out in to the woods. Ron carrying some of the last pumpkins from the grade wall to the train.
Mike taking some time out to have some of the pizza we had in the station and little Bridey Uhrich looks up at the big guy sitting on the engineers control car. While checking out the faces on the pumpkins Bridey looked up at the photographer and I snapped this shot.
Mitch and Michele Lane at this end of the tables working on their creations and the crew working behind them. It looks like Valerie has grasped the knife for carving as Dave Woldman had as she works on her pumpkin.
Mitch Lane and Dave Woldman walk back towards the station as Mike on the train pulls away with another load of pumpkins. Bob Pakeltis and Kathy behind him with Adam Pakeltis opposite them concentrating on carving pumpkins.
