Work Session - 5/10/17

Ron Trenhaile just brought to the track his new control car, for his diesel engine, that he has been working on. A rear view of the car sitting on the track by our storage barn.
Dave Cryor watches as Ron checks the air brake lines under the car as it sits on our transfer table. Members sitting at the station waiting for the lunch call as Bonnie Zaken sets out the fixings inside the station.
George Metts had his Son bring him down to the station to spend some time with us and he said he's feeling better. Tom Pappas and Ken Brooks load up the lumber into Ken's truck from our coal storage shed that John Koontz knocked down with the tractor.
Tom pries up some of the bottom support boards as Ken carries some smaller pieces to the truck. The structure has seen better days and had some serious rot taking over the lumber and looking shabby.
Ron installed the new batteries he purchased for our Ballast Sweeper to get it up and running again. Ken policing the area picking up the small pieces here and there from the storage shed before hauling off the old wood.
Ken's cleaning up the branches that had fallen and accumulated around the old shed. John Koontz backs up the work train with the ballast car to dress off the approach track from the transfer table at the other end of the Willis Car Barn.
The number 1 loading track which sits atop a grade could also use some ballast. Paul Emch checks out the equipment we use and gives it a safety inspection along with periodical maintainance and lubing.
In addition to checking the brakes for correct operation, he lubricates moving parts to the brake and bolster pins. John moves the train slowly ahead as Dick Clark operates the chute gates, on Mulberry Trk. 1.
You can't see it from this angle but Dick is holding the blade of the shovel to protect the space between the switch throw mechcanism ties from filling in with the ballast. Getting ready to spread ballast on the grade down to Patty's Rock Bridge.
Back at the station I spied this purvayor of food on the trash bin which right after this picture he went dumpster diving. After a few minutes he managed to get back out with a morsel of food which he consumed on the spot.
