Work Session/Rides for Seniors - 5/17/17

.
Ron Trenhaile took the task of mowing the grass around Shriver Station today with the small mower around the fences. The new replacement hydraulic motor for the Park engine was brought to the track today shown here alongside of the old one.
The engine repair crew clamped a wood block to the distribution block for the hoses so they wouldn't leak oil from last week to today. Wayne Boron brought the older style of car jacks to lift the front end of the engine to remove the front truck. Great idea!
Looking down on the front truck which is upside down in this view. You can see the mounting holes for the hydraulic motor and the tight space it has to go into.
Last time they put a block of wood under the frame between the rails and lowered the lift down thereby raising the front end but they had to lift the truck out sideways. The new motor that will replace the original.
A view of the name plate on the new motor. Frank Smoley taking off the front set of wheels for clearance to mount the new motor in place.
They even bought a double sprocket for the chain drive as the old one was homemade and the chains were rubbing against each other as they were too close together. Frank and Wayne Boron trying to mount the new motor.
As much as they tried they couldn't get the new motor mounted and in this view you can see why, the new one is longer and won't fit in the welded up mounting bracket. So now they have to get the new sprocket off, return the motor and have the old one rebuilt.
At the station Katie Pappas talks with Lou DeLembo as others wait for riders of the "Welcome aboard for the train ride for Seniors" to show up. Meanwhile, Ken Vendlinger is cutting the grass behind the station on our John Deere tractor that was donated to the club by Joe Laskowski. Thank you Joe!
The seniors have arrived and Ken Brooks, our president talks with them, telling them what is planned as this is the first time we have done this program. Lou takes the conductors seat as Paul Emch at right talks with riders.
Ken V. talks with riders that have boarded the train as Ken B. gives riding instruction, Paul talks with Park rep. and Tom Pappas is standing at right. Paul taking a picture of the riders using their phone camera.
Paul Zorko and Ken deciding that the run will consist of two trips past the station with the second trip through the woods that the public generally doesn't go on. I think Anna Zorko is giving the riders a blessing, mainly because I don't remember now.
Paul advances the shifter and the train starts moving down the mainline towards our storage sheds. The trains stopped and off loaded passengers, then Ken describes how they will be able to go through our storage sheds to see the equipment we use.
The seniors waiting to walk single file through our Willis Car Barn. Ken leads the tour out of the barn and heads for the Stanek Car Barn which is alongside to see our additional storage of equipment.
Ken talks to the trainload of seniors as Paul waits for the go ahead from Ken to start the ride for their extended run. Paul Zorko passes by with his trainload of passengers on his train following Paul Emch.
John Koontz using the ballast sweeper on the Mulberry yard track No. 1. The electric servo that raises and lowers the sweeper brush jumped out of place and Ron Trenhaile and Frank Smoley check out the problem.
You can see the piston of the servo jumped out of its connector to the frame and jambed between the mount and the hood of the sweeper. The piston rod had a burr gouged in it and had to be filed off before the piston would retrack but it was remounted.
