Work Session - 7/26/17

Ken Brooks and Ron Trenhaile checking out the steaming bays and shimming them up to keep them level. A few of them show that they need some TLC.
Tom Pappas joined us giving a hand with the leveling of the bridges spanning the support posts. Ron checking the fasteners holding the rail down to the ties.
On the work table in front of the storage barns, a riding car was having it's trucks and brakes checked out by the maintainance crew. Frank Smoley with the pliers is replacing the springs back into the trucks.
Wayne Boron, Steve Zaken, Dick Scott, Frank Smoley and Ron Trenhaile helped roll the car over on it's other side to check out this side of the truck. Back at the station for a coffee break we see that Greg has put up a drip strip on the edge of the roof.
A section of track on the Branch line that needs to be leveled and tamped. The track crew at Horrendous as Ken, using a level, prys the track with a screwdriver to center the bubble as Tom tamps the ballast.
Tom tamping as Ken watches the level checking that the track remains level. Ken Vendlinger, Dick Clark and John Koontz watch as Ken and Tom work on the rail as they near a switch.
After lifting the track panel with the screwdriver Ken tamps the ballast to hold the "level". Work on the track continues because members noticed that when rounding this curve some trains leaned a little to the outside of the curve.
Behind the station Greg Guy was doing a much needed trimmming up of the trees in the old apple orchard. Ken was helping to drag off the cut limbs into the woods.
The trees really looked pretty good after all the trimming was done. Maybe Ken won't get knocked off the riding mower now that the lower limbs have been removed.
