Recently we had a couple of trains that derailed when backing into the Ochard Yard, so Ron Trenhaile, Dick Scott and Frank Foti checked out the switch points. They replaced a couple of ties and added shims to the point rail. |
With points shimmed, Dick got a wheelborrow of ballast and dumped it as Ron tamped the ballaast between the ties. Frank and Ron checked the gauge and refastened the rail to bring it up to specs. |
After running a train through, Dick and John Reba took on the task of bending the switch point so a wheel flange wouldn't pick the switch point. Dick Clark is checking the rail gauge through the switch points. |

The crew next moved over to Thorn to work on the by-pass track we are installing where John Koontz looks over the rail crossing site. Dick Clark removes the bolts at the rail joints as John watches. |
We'll take the existing track section out of operation so we can place the by-pass track down and make the crossing later. John, Dennis Crislip and Paul Zorko look on as Dick continues removing the eight bolts at the tie joints. |
Wouldn't you know it, there is an old tree stump right in the middle of the right-a-way of the by-pass track that has to be chopped out. John using a maddock worked on removing the stump. |
A picture of Dick just relaxing after he had taken the rail joiners off the track panel so we could remove the panel. John completes the task and takes a breather, you can see the stump pieces lying around. |
With that done we placed and fastened down another track panel. The crew work installing another panel beyond the crossing area. |
