Work Session - 8/15/18

We had a derailment near the end of Saturday nights run that shut down the mainline for the switch at Zip Junction. When I got to the park, Frank Foti and Frank Smoley had already removed the damaged rail from the switch and were trying to straighten it.
Ron Trenhaile and John Koontz are removing the switch points as Frank Foti and Ken Brooks watch. After the old ballast was removed that was under the damaged ties, John was placing the new ties in position.
John takes a breather as Frank starts fastening the rail down to the new ties. With the rail gauges in place Frank is ready to start fastening the rail down with the screws.
Ron was helping by bolting the switch points to the fixed rail using the rail splicer plates we have. Frank finished putting the last couple screws in place and the ties are all fixed in place.
Frank Smoley and Wayne Boron are adjusting the switch throw on a main line switch up near the steaming bays. Frank and Wayne are clearing any stones between the points and between the ties for the switch throw rod.
At the Zip Junction switch, Ron is putting the switch throw rod back in place on the new ties. After dumping in new ballast between the rails, it just needs to be tamped and swept down and our main line will be open again for running.
