Work Session - 9/19/18

.
Ron Trenhaile cutting grass around Shriver Station to keep it looking good around the area. Ken Brooks, John Koontz, Dick Scott and Frank Foti getting ready to carry the bridge beams into place setting them on the foundations that we had placed.
Frank and Ken, using our railroad tie tongs, are holding up the end of the beam for John to put the shims underneath the end. You can see where the crew last week laid concrete blocks with mortar in place to bring up the height of the foundation.
Using a pair of the railroad tongs the crew carries a railroad tie to place it on the piers. Setting the tie in its tentative position so we can get the tongs off of the beam.
Ken Vendlinger with the John Deere mower cutting the grass around the parking area for the storage barns. Dave Hird who is on our switch committee is checking out, lubricating switches and takes time out to talk with Dick Scott.
Ken cutting the grass around Orchard Yard behind the station and doing a good job. We decided that due to the thickness of the shim to use bricks and the clerk at the store recommended this waterproof mastic cement we are going to try out.
Ken starts spreading the mastic cement on top of the solid concrete block slabs as John waits to put them in position. With all the shims and beams set in the mastic the crew takes a breather.
The end of one set sitting on the foundation pier. The center support showing two different type of beams being supported for Cheat Bridge.
