3.07.07 Work Session

We started off this session by moving the transfer table to the welding stations and checked the rail positions. Our welder started TIG welding the guard rails down to the 1/4 inch thick plate.
Tome is applying weld between the rails at the end so the guard rails won't roll in a derailment. You can see the brass spacer bars we use to ensure the correct spacing.
In this view all the guard rails have been welded down from the topside of the plate. After we turned the plate upside down any projecting rails from the edge of the plate get a fillet weld.
By welding across the overhanging ends we strengthen the rails. Work is almost done as far as welding the rails to the plate.
A close-up of the TIG welding process, notice no splatter as in stick welding. Back at the end of the plant Bill Deptowicz grinds the slots for the flangeways and this crossing just needs painting.
