Railfest - 3/16/2012

Out in the front lobby at the college, Jon Jaros brought in a couple railcars that he built which included a work car or crane car. Ken Brooks brought his Steeple cab engine for display out in the front lobby also.
Jon's newly built work car has a steam engine switcher chassis that is under construction that's strapped down to it for the display. A view of the 0-6-0 chassis that has the smoke box mounted to it along with the cylinder castings.
In front of the work car is the chassis for a three truck Shay that Kevin Harris is building and doing nicely so far. A view of the two frames with the three trucks which will be the chassis for the Shay.
Club member Judy Oscker looking at the lettering that Jon applied to the end of his boxcar as she stands behind the third truck of the Shay. A three-quarter view of John's boxcar nicely lettered for the New York Central.
A close-up view of the vinyl lettering that Jon applied to his New York Central boxcar that really looks sharp. Jon's second boxcar is lettered for the Horizon Rail Locomotive Services which he also did the lettering on.
Bob Pakeltis brought in his scratch built engine that he's working on that uses a wheelchair motor with a gear drive with chain sprockets and chain driving each axle. A close-up view of the electric motor powered gear drive with the chain sprockets and chain.
At our table display in the gym Roy and Kevin Harris displayed this 4-4-0 American chassis and had it blocked up to run on air so the wheels would turn for the audience, but we didn't have enough air pressure for our tabletop engines and this engine. A view looking down on the smoke box plumbing.
Mike Harkleroad and Kevin Harris are by the back door trying to get the air compressor running while Judy Oscker helps Rex Shriver with his videodiscs and Roy Harris sets out some small tabletop steam engines. Daryl Metcalf brought this working steam tractor for display that was built by Joe Hansen of Florida.
Some of the tabletop steam engines and steam plants that were on display at our tables which are all working models. Kevin Harris working on running the airline to the engine to see if we have enough air pressure from the compressor to run all the models for display.
This year we have Jann Glove from Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Reservation to talk to the public about the upcoming programs and events for 2012. An overhead view of the gym with the dealer tables and our model display against the back wall at the upper left-hand side and Rex Shriver's 1/8 scale train videos running all day of the tracks he visited.
This is an overhead view of the main gym at the college with some of the dealers and modular layouts that the train clubs set up. An overhead view from the opposite side of the gym looking down on the activities below.
Some of the activity back at our table displays with our members ready to answer any questions that may be posed to them about our location and operations. Since it was St. Patty's day, Tom Pescha was walking around all dressed up for the occasion complete with a top hat and a big bow.
With a little lull in the attendees at our tables I was able to get a good picture of some of the members behind our display tables. Robbie Haines and Judy Oscker are wearing green derbies, courtesy of Bill Deptowicz, in honor of St. Patty's day that goes along with the color of their shirts very well.
Kitty Shriver talks with one of the attendees as John Deptowicz sitting behind them listens to the conversation. Roy Harris was kept busy lubricating and adjusting the air pressure on the individual engines that were running.
Some of the steam engines and equipment that were set out for a static display to show the possibilities of different type of collections. A view from the end of our display tables looking down along the line of the members present at this time.
A view of the display that Jann from Penitentiary Glen Reservation brought to display in our area. John Deptowicz sitting behind the 1/8 scale scratch-built Snoopy caboose that he built complete with Woodstock in a nest on the roof for his Snoopy train.
