Railfest Train Show – 3/16/14

Don Speidel, Ken Vendlinger, Ken Brooks, Rick Nagy, Frank Foti and Edith Hacker take time off after setting up equipment on Friday. Bill Deptowicz brought the scratch-built fender and truck for the interurban he is building with a picture display of the progress.
Ken Brooks and Judy Oscker were preparing the Lake Shore Live Steamers banner to hang behind our display tables. The crew for Railfest were very helpful in getting the Snoopy train to the back gym where our display area was.
Judy at our display table with the Snoopy train in position and covered up for the evening ready for the public on Saturday morning. John Deptowicz, Steve Zaken, Linda Harris and Bonnie Zaken in conversation before they start getting out their engines for display.
Mark Estvanko, a former member, stopped by with his son and daughter, Richard and Amy, with Logan the baby and Josh who's looking over the steam engines. Shortly after lunch the attendee traffic thinned out.
The scratch built truck that Bill made with a picture display showing some of the machining and the construction of the body as it was being built. Some of the engines that were on display were running on air and Roy Harris provided a telegraph that many of the kids enjoyed to operate.
Edith, Bonnie and Steve "manned" the tables to answer any questions about the tabletop steam engines. Edith, Bonnie and Steve behind the displays and the steam engine chassis of Roy Harris with Linda and Robbi Haines in the background.
Ken Brooks stayed up near the entrance, where he had his caboose and Frank Foti had "East Wind" on display. Ken's caboose on its display stand for the show
A small beam type steam engine that was running on air. A three cylinder launch engine on display that belongs to Roy Harris is only one of many in his collection.
Steve Zaken had brought his miniature wood workshop which which he had machined and it was running on jack shafts as in the olden days of power equipment. Another display of steam engines that Steve had that were scratch built.
Steve and Bonnie Zaken sitting behind their engine displays that were running on air. A view down the three tables that we occupied for the show with Roy answering some questions about the engines on display.
In general we had a good volume of people that would stop at the tables showing some interest in the running engines and asking questions. The square pipe along the edge of the table was our air manifold and we had a compressor outside the door because of the noise.
The young man in the foreground is operating the telegraph key as Roy explains how it was used while Steve in the background lubricates his engines. During a lull of the showgoers I took the opportunity to take a picture of the tables.
Jann Glove from Penitentiary Glen Park brought and had on display information about the park which is in front of Judy on the table. John Deptowicz was behind his Snoopy engine and caboose willing to answer any questions about cost involved to get into 1/8 scale railroading.
Ed Fincher, Dick Clark and Paul Emch manning the tables at this end of our display. Roy Harris talking to Dick Mackey as showgoers look over the operating steam engines on the table.
Judy Oscker taking care of the sale of chocolate suckers that Robbi Haines made as Gary Deimling watches. Mike Harkleroad trying to find a file on his laptop as John watches behind the TV monitor we had running with some old videotapes of our club and others.
Our ever smiling Park representative Jann Glove was talking to the showgoers and passing out brochures about Penitentiary Glen Park where we operate our trains. Frank Foti was kept busy answering questions about his steam engine "East Wind" which is a Pacific steam locomotive modeled after the Boston & Maine Railroad equipment.
Ken, Judy and Rick take time out for a photo on Sunday afternoon. Photo opportunities abound as this family takes advantage of the red caboose in the background.
