Work Session - 3/18/09

Bill Deptowicz bought two mufflers for the Park engine and turned flanges on two 1/4" plates on the lathe, drilled and tapped them with pipe thread for 3/4" and on the one added a reducer pipe fitting from 1" to 3/4" pipe.
Behind the mufflers is a piece of used 3" dia. stainless steel exhaust pipe 18" lg. I put the "cap" plates with the mufflers mounted on them in the 3" pipe and welded them on and the "muffler" is ready to mount on the engine.
Frank Foti gave East Wind a degreasing and is wiping her down. Since Frank had the lift in use we had to wait till he brought it back so we could move the GP38, that is on the other side of the Park engine, off the table.
Dave Foster brought in a tank that we are going to use for air brake reservoir on this engine. Joe Banzer drilling through the bed plate with a 3/8" drill for muffler hangers as Bob Davidson holds the hoses out of the way .
Lew Fowler watches the progress as Joe drills the hole as Bob holds the hydraulic hoses out of the way. Bill also made two of these 3/8" threaded rod hangers and bent the bar to conform to the 3" dia. muffler.
The muffler attached to the 1" exhaust pipe from the motor with the threaded rod hanger in place. An end view of the muffler with both hangers in place and the clamps still needing to be put in proper position.
Lew positioning the hanger with the nut below the bed plate as Bob adds the nut and lock washer above the plate. The muffler clamped in place and the original muffler screwed on to the end of the new muffler using a 45 degree elbow.
A different view showing the way the exhaust would be discharged to the side. Dave Foster and George Woodling putting the horns back on that we removed for work clearance.
