Railfest 2010 - 3/20/10

George Woodlings' interurban and two Nickel Plate cabooses representing the wooden era and the modern steel era are on the tables. A closer view of Georges' electric powered interurban on the table.
Bill Deptowicz scratch-built this NKP caboose from oak veneered plywood using purchased trucks and couplers. Paul Emch had the windows relocated in this steel Mountain Car caboose kit and then painted in the NKP paint scheme.
John Deptowicz took a purchased chassis from Plum Cove Studios and built, painted and mounted Snoopys' dog house on the chassis. Clayton Davidsons' engine, built by George Davidson, was displayed in the front lobby.
Frank Fotis' Pacific, East Wind, on its' display stand in front of Claytons' switcher. Mark Ross displayed his scratch-built gas powered Galloping Goose No.2 with a board of reference data that he used in the construction of the car.
George Metts brought his recent aquisition, a Camelback live steam engine, to display in the lobby. Skip Frank had his Columbia engine, "Lynn" which he built along with his wooden bobber caboose on display.
Ken Brooks brought his electric powered steeple cab scratch-built by the late George Davidson. George Metts brought his scratch-built gas powered Army switcher he completed just in time for the show.
A view from the other side of the switcher. Brian Pettit brought a truck to display for the Shay that he has under construction in inch and a half scale that is minus the gears at this stage.
Kevin Harris brought the flatcar chassis for a conductor car he is making it into. Kevin also brought this swing frame bolster truck that he is scratch-building.
Jeff Klein looks over the aray of tabletop steam engines as Lou DeLembo connects the air supply we had to run the engines. The small steam engines are always an item of interest to the public.
A view of the lineup of some of the engines on display in the lobby. From minature work shop models made by Steve Zaken to the steam launch engine brought by Roy Harris to the table top steam engines brought by Roger Harnish and Robbi Haines.
Roy Harris, Howard Murphy and Robbi Haines field questions about the engines on display, the club or the live steam hobby. Ross Scibona brought his 3/4" = 1'-0" scale Shay in brass that he is constructing.
With most of the engine made from brass, for duribility the wheels, some bolts, shafts and gears are made from steel. An overall view of the engine shows a labor of love for each detailed piece.
At a slack time we see Rex Shriver, Linda Harris, Robbi Haines and Kitty Shriver behind the tables with Roy Harris in front. Exhibitors were invited to the Western Reserve Model Railroad Museum at 7230 Justin Way, Mentor, Ohio 44060 which is a delight.
As you can see it's a large area with a goal of representing by layout all the different scales of model railroading. Most scales have operating segments of their scale with expansion taking place since their move to these larger quarters.
Back at Railfest Skip frank stands alongside his smooth running live steam locomotive, tender and caboose. Roy Harris adding lubrication to his engine during the show.
