Work Session - 3/25/09

Bill Deptowicz machined two saddle blocks for the air tank and we are trying to clear the angle frame below the bed plate with the bolt holes. Tightening down the first saddle block that was machined out of 1 1/8" sq. bar.
Lew Fowler putting some weight on the drill to get a hole through the bed plate. Joe Banzer and Lew just finished tightening up the straps to the saddles that hold the tank in place.
The tank in it's mount with 1/8" rubber strips on the saddles and under the straps to prevent dielectric action between dissimilar metals. Meanwhile Ted Nyland and Ken Brooks work on building another switch.
Ted has been working too hard because all I asked him to do was smile for the camera. Dave Foster was putting the trucks back on the rider car because next week we move back to the Park for outdoor work.
Joe, George Woodling and Bill Deptowicz work on replacing the chain between the front two axles. Frank Foti's birthday was next week so we enjoyed a cake and no that's not a goatee on his chin but grease..I think he kissed East Wind to reassure her that he would have her back together soon.
Frank thought that the frosting was a little messed up so he was going to touch it up... with the grease gun. Frank's cutting the cake..."Anyone want the first piece?"
Frank watches as George did the honors of cutting the cake and Rick Nagy waits to be served. Joe and Bob Davidson clean the grease and oil out of the dummy gas tank as Lew watches the progress.
Joe putting the screws back in the end caps of the dummy tank as Bob, Lew and Rick wait to reassemble the tank back on the chassis. Ted and Ken finished up the last switch to be built at Hose Master this Spring and are cleaning for the move.
The air tank looks good mounted there but we still need an air compressor. The guys wrapped the engine exhaust pipe with fiberglas insulation to keep the heat out of the engine compartment.
They packed the dummy tank with fiberglas insulation and had to remove that 45 degree elbow and set the last muffler straight. Remember those machined frogs a little earlier? This is what they were used for.
Coming off Branch Line near Hemlock we are adding a switch with track that will cross over two tracks to connect with the main line. Two crossovers are needed,a 13 degree and a 20 degree.
Dave Foster cut the 2" steel channels to length and welded the frogs and steel rail down to them. This is the 20 degree crossover on the bench at his shop at home. Really looks good.
